Previa Stick Accelerator

Hi, I've got a 1994/5 Previa GL 2.4 auto GL

Lately the accelerator has become sticky. When I leave home it is OK, but when I have to stop at trafic lights etc. when moving away I have to thump the accelerator. What is the likely cause and could I repair it myself.

i havent had this problem with previa but have with a capri long time ago. found it to be accel cable fraying , mabe worth a look ?.
