How Fast Are T Sports?

Hi guys,

Im contemplating the usual suspects ie paxo, zetec s fiesta, 206 xsi etc. I drove a red 03 plate T sport yesterday (phase 1 i guess). The thing is although i prefer it to the others, i must admit that it didnt feel as quick as i was expecting.

Is it that these are not that fast or is it just that they dont feel fast? I have read a few reviews and looked in a few mags and they too state that performance isnt as good as it should be given the power output.

Please help me, has anybody done any performance testing in their t-sports or can anybody enlighten me as to how fast they are?

I need to be converted!

Many thanks

no need to be rude man!!

hey - welcome to toc, often a few have said it feels not as quick as other with the increased ride hight, however they do have potential have a flcik throught the forum to see what mods people have got, maybe have a look in people garages, links generally in the user sig, also check out the santa pod post as few of us went up on sunday and tested ours

welcome and enjoy

it may not feel as quick as some others, but with the power and weight it has, its a good contender if not better than most on the market in the same catagory

Thanks for the welcome guys. I could be joining the club tmrw if i go ahead and buy it! Sorry for starting a 'racing' thread, but was only wondering if other people had experience with any of the others first hand, and knew how they stacked up. My friend has a zetec s and that feels quite quick. What do TS's 1/4 mile at standard?

welcome to the club...

and can i just give some advice - you dont want to be buying a car based purely on which is fastest...

If you liked the Yaris more, then its probably for a reason, you need to weigh up all the pro's and con's to each car... and from that respect the T-sport is probably a good bet... its comfortable, reliable, apparantly it has bad bodyroll and and a saxo VTS would leave it for dead (although the saxo would probably leave half its bodywork behind as well :P ).

Have a think about when and how you will use the car - sure for a track blast you want the best car you can get, but if thats only 4 days out of 365, what about the other 361?

The t-sport can beat the zetec s in a straight line, but when it comes to handling round corners, the zetec s is far better than the yaris.

Thats exactly why i want the YTS. Ive thought about the whole package and as an ownership prospect something like a paxo cant even compare. They are possibly the worst built cars ive ever seen. I realise speed isnt everything, but i just want to be reassured that if i spend 7k on a YTS i wont get burnt from the lights by a vtr and likewise.

No i swear the t-sport can handle the VTR, they are only about 90bhp. The yaris are cute little cars, but a little bit high for my liking.

a vtr is slower so is a 206 xsi and zetec s. but it takes a lot of tunig to beat the vts and 106 gti as they use the same 120bhp engine.

I'm assuming you mean the lights at santa pod ;)

and hey, so what if you do - as i said, 3 miles later his saxo is likely to resemble an Arial Atom, whereas you will be comfy and relaxed...

Dont get me wrong, i understand your point, but the Yaris is by no means slow, but its more of a warm hatch..

Well if you do come across such a predicament, just point and laugh at the chav killing his badly made french car, as he is only trying to get away from his embarrassment being next to such a great car (and he knows it!)

dont half make me laugh when some says... 'TS will beat xxx off the lights

'oh, you mean santa pod lights *wink* *wink*'

stop being such goodie goodies its a common thing to know whats a good quick car, if anyone starts directly refering to street racing then something will be done

Punto HGT's are faster aswell but there isn't that many around!

The T-Sport is a great little car and if, eventually, you want to make it faster just go to TTE in Germany and get the supercharger fitted! :D

ok ive had 2 Fiesta Zetec S's and i cant praise them enough... for fun factor they are one of the best cars in the market at its class. Ive had a Modified one and a standard one, the modified one had every little thing you could think of, coilovers, super chip, 4-2-1 manifold, kent cams... that car felt soooo fast yet only did 60 just under 9 seconds... so still slower than the T sport. The styling of the Zetec S is also i think a bit better :)

They definatly arent as fast as the my T sport, but they felt very fast, me and my friends alwasy use to say, its a 10 second car but feels like 8 or so! Im sure the driving postion has something to do with that, as in the yaris your sitting a lot higher.

heres a few pictures of my old cars

wel at the weekend i went to santa pod and raced a 106gti twice and i won once running a 16.061 quarter mile, ive changed my seats in my TS to get a nice lower sporty posistion and changed the susspension and loded the car with strut braces and now i could probably glue to the back end of a zetec s no probs round the bends,

also ive noticed how poor the new 2.0l zetec s is i came across one the other day and past it quite easy considering the .5cc differance,

check my garage for my spec ad costs of this

Lee

PS im on my 3rd yaris ( i do love it too much)

Generally, if you want the all round package..... nippy, reliable, well-built, fun, good looking - the Yaris has all that. where as most other cars can only tick one or two of the boxes....

Gosh I sound biased dont I...... :lol::lol:

I thought the ST was the 2.0ltr one, which has 150bhp.  The zetec is a 1.6.

me too

im not quite sure but the new zetec s is harder to pass than the old one
