London Congestion Charge

Hello, this is my first post in the forum. I have had a Prius T4 for about a year now, getting a solid 55mpg (rising to 58-59 in the summer with higher tire pressures), but that's not why I'm here.

I was sold the car as 'exempt' from TfL congestion charging, but of course on my 1 trip ever to London I have been fined £50. The rub is that you have to register obviously exempt cars with TfL for £10 a year, exemption is not automatic.

The dealer freely admits that several Priuses were 'missold' ilke this and they ahve tightened their proceedures, but I am still being hounded for the fine. I am fighting it as far as I can and it has gone to appeal, I will of course let you all know the outcome.

I suppose this may have more relevance in the future if congestion charging scheme spread, I have read that this may well happen.

If the Prius was sold to you by the Toyota dealer as "exempt from TfL charges" then I would expect that Toyota should be prepared to "Do the decent thing" and pay your fine and registration fee for exemption.

It would be worth a letter to Toyota UK pointing out the value of any "adverse" publicity
