I've got a problem with my corolla its averagin 16mpg thats workin it ot with a calculator the trip computer is only 1mpg out so summats workin. Performace is fine engine sounds fine but it is drinkin a lot of oil again 300 miles and its halfway on the dipstick. Got the car booked in for monday they wanted it in tomorrow so they seem to think summat major is wrong or there just very efficent. The cars done 45k full toyota history the air-con was not on and no windows open, air filter looks clean no leaks on the car no smell of fuel. I'm not worried about the cost has the cars under manufactors warrenty just worried what could it be.

That seems far too low MPG for a 1.4

Do you drive the car really hard? but even then it would need to be really ragging it all the time i would think to get near 16mpg!

Definately get it checked out mate, somethings not right there

the car is very sledom past 4000 rpm change up around 2500-3500rpm around town and 4000-4500 on dual carraige ways m-ways when pullin away from island junctions, just everythin esle seems fine apart from oil useage and fuel 2 may be connected, but with fuel at 94p a litre its hittin the old wallet area pretty hard, has the car would do 45mpg easy even saw a returen of 50mpg last september on a return trip from dover i've never known it drop below 37 in stop start traffic.

Its goin to the toyota garage on monday but i would of thought it would of thrown a warning light up or engine managment light but nothin, at at least i've got summat in common with a toyota f1 car even if it is only me mpg. Thanks for the replies so far just thought some one may of had a similer problem i know loads of vvt-i owners have oil problems. Worrying thing is it sounds and drive normally which made me spend a good hour looking around and smellin for fule but nothing theres still pressure in the tank so i'm 99.9% certain it aint a leak. The toyota dealer i use are spot on so i'm sure they will sort it out. If not looks like i'll be gettin me an avensis quicker than i intended.

Went back to my toyota garage on monday with the current problems, they uploaded some updates to the ECU which they said should stop poor fuel efficeny, has for oil usage pop back in 1000 mile time. Been back again yesterday did 400 miles and the dip stick was dry. Know hears my problem the warrenty administrater said stright away new engine service manger said the cars fine its cos i'm doin 25k a year half of that is m-way driving and it uses the oil to cool the valve train my response was b :censor: ks. After having a chat with the technicion who worked on my car well pluged in a computer how the hell thats gonna show where me oil is goin to is anybody's guess, said they'd had several corolla's in with the same problems. Plus a fair few avensis 1.8 vvt-i's and its a block and piston ring issue on all vvt-i's from 2000-2002. But until i can get the service manager to say yes the car is shot i'm in limbo, so do i rag the nuts off it and let it go bang then give them the car on a flat bed or just keep goin up there every 2 days for free oil. Toyota GB have even told me after quoting my engine number and year of manufacture there is a problem and that my local dealer should be more than happy to help. The more times i go back the closer i'm gettin to buy a t3x avensis. :ffs:
