Another Squealing Noise

Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 2.0 vvt Avensis with 63000 miles on it. Recently it has developed a squeal but only when the engine is cold. Once warmed up it goes away. I used to have a Vectra and a common problem for those was for the bearings on the cam belt roller to fail, and it sounds exactly like that.

I've listened to it with the bonnet up and it seems to be coming from the alternator end of the engine ie lots of pulleys etc.

Anyone with any specific ideas that this could be?

Cheers!

Mike.

First of all, check altenator belt. It´s most common source of the squiling noise. Even if it seems that noise is comming from somwhere beside it. Try the soap trick, just to check if the noise goes away. You can try something easier, like throwing some wather on the belt while rolling. If noise dissapears, it's belt problem. Change the belt, it's low cost.

Try replacing the auxilliary belt tensioner along with the belt. this should rectify the problem.
