I'm sure someone on here had their alloys replaced under warranty for the same reason, or the coating was flaking off.

Take it back to toyota and tell them you'r not happy, and make them change the alloys.

Some things happen, it could be a dodgy wheel

:D :D :D

Yes. More times than I can remember.

For some reason Toyota have a knack of building great cars and then fitting the worst alloy wheels on the planet. OK, they look great when new, but the finish on most of them seems to have no ability to resist corrosion.

My Gen 7 Celica had two sets under warranty, first at about 18 months old, and second carefully timed to be fitted just before the warranty ran out.

And my 03 Lexus needs a new set now too. I got them to replace the the centre caps on it when I bought it (at about 18 months old) and will get the wheels done at the next service.

I'm sure you'll have no problems getting them changed under warranty edli83. Dealers are well used to alloys being in this state. Get a new set. Next time they rot you can have them properly refurbed (which will cost about £100) and they should be OK after that.

When I had the Celica wheels changed, each time I was told that they were on top of the problem and had changed the coating process so it wouldn't happen again. The state of the Lexus ones suggests that that isn't the case.

My 94 MR2 has some corrosion on its wheels but at 11 years old I don't think that's too bad, but these new ones that last about a year before they rot are a disgrace to the Toyota & Lexus badges.

Na - they'll probably do it while you wait. If not they should sort you out with a courtesy car for the day or half a day while they change them.

The problem's so well known you might find a phone call will be enough to get them to order the wheels in. Or you might have to take the car down for them to inspect, then maybe it'll take them a week or so to order the wheels.

Don't forget the dealer isn't paying for the wheels, and they make money on the work content, so warranty work is a good earner for them. Get them to check that there's nothing else needs doing under warranty at the same time; my local dealer found a couple of other bits that needed doing and were very happy to point these out to me and to sort them FOC.

And make sure you get the 3rd annual service done before the car is 3 years old - you don't want to take it in when it's 3 years and 1 day old and find that there is something wrong that could have been done for free.

PS - before you contact them, check your manual re the proper cleaning procedure for the wheels - I think it probably says wash with soapy water. If they ask how you clean them you don't want to be admitting that you use some fantastic cleaning product or a pressure washer 'cos that's an invitation for them to tell you that it's your own fault.

PPS - is your spare alloy. If so, then you probably want it changed too in case the new ones look slightly different. First time round I'd had the spare on the car and so it needed changing anyway. Second time the spare was unused and the replacement set had a slightly different finish to the spare; they weren't too keen on changing it for me, but I got them to do it eventually.

they should change them with no questions they did with mine and they will order them in and change them while you wait its a common fault that the wheels go bubbly and the laquer starts to come off for some reason ;)

I had a new set less than 18 months ago and one of the wheels is going again.....

Last ones were kindly changed by MR T .

Its annoying, but at least you know its a MR T fault so it can be fixed at no cost to you.
