I need a new thermostat for my MK2 REV1 Tubby.

I really want a TRD one, but at £55 it will have to wait !

I am looking around on the net, and can find sites that supply them, but two sizes ?

56mm and 64mm

Which do I need ?

It does say on the ad that you can buy both and return the wrong one.

Alternatively, phone Fensport and ask them which size it should be, then go elsewhere for it!

I've never understood the point of the TRD one, you need the engine to get to normal operating temperature as soon as possible so why open the thermostat sooner? Maybe someone could explain.

The TRD thermostat doesn't stop it getting to operating temperature any sooner/later.

Don't judge operating temperature of car off water temp gauges. It's oil temp that's important.

TRD thermostat opens at 74oC as opposed to 84oC (I think that's the figures... either way, it's 10oC sooner) due to spring rating, and therefore cools engine sooner to prevent from overheating.

I fitted the TRD thermostat, and it makes a big difference when the car is pushed hard. Not really worth doing if you don't use the car hard too often, or haven't modified much beyond stock.
