Car Smashed Today!

Was sitting at junction today behind a tractor with trailer. Quite a bit of traffic around so the boy driving decides to reverse back and onto wrong side of the road to go into the agricultural supply shop.

He obviously didnt see me, sitting a cars length or so behind him, and started coming back at a fair pace. I tried to throw it into reverse but it was too late and he connected with the front end. Threw me back a foot or so and then stopped so i lay the horn on.

They got out and apologised etc, said they would pay for the damage etc which was civil enough.

Damage:

Front bumper has several deep gouges and the connecting bolts are all sheared

Right light bracket snapped and lens smashed

Radiator bracket is twisted

Bonnet folded up and deeply scratched

God knows what else underneath :rage:

Anyway could have been worse i suppose, thought he was for coming through the windscreen! Near shat myself!

Heres the pics:

As long as you're alrite mate.

Had a few cars nearly do the same to me - I usually lay into the horn.

At least they are gonna pay for it all.

What a numpty - obviously sitting so high he didnt see you but you have thought he would have double checked....

Still, at least he has apologised and is offering to pay for the damage! Glad to see the damage is minimal and you are alright! Always get nervous when I read "Car Smashed" :(

look on the bright side, the car can be replaced, it was not your fault so your insurance is not at risk, and the main thing is your ok.

Good to know new parts are still available then guys cheers for the help.

The guy i spoke to seemed to be smart enough compared to the driver (i spoke to the passenger) Driver just stared into space and didnt say one word. Probably in shock!

Must remember to post some pics up when shes all fixed.

Glad you're OK. The car can be fixed or replaced, but your life can't. Glad it wasn't more serious.

Some drivers really pee me off....nearly get some wally drive into the side of me every morning, speeding through the tiny little village I live in when I am trying to pull out of a dodgy junction. Makes me cross :ffs:

was the tractor and trailer legal? lights number plates ETC.

ive seen a lot of these things drive round with no reg plate, lights defective, no lights on trailers, insecure loads etc.

my guess is that he offered to pay for the damage cos he wasnt insured anyway. take him to the cleaners. take your car to a main dealer for repair quote.

about time farmers realised that they cant just do as they want.

any way thats me anti-farmer rant over! :ffs:

glad your ok but i bet it was a brown trouser moment

Parts will still be available. Manufacturers are obliged to supply parts for at least 10 years after the end of a models production.

One thing that does worry me slightly. All the damage is to the back of his trailer and the front of your car. Assuming you get a quote for the work and he then decides it's too much and decides to go through the insurance things might get a bit sticky. All the evidence points to you running into the back of him. If you can get written statements off the guy and get independant witness where possible. It'll put you in a much stronger position. Hope it doesn't come to that but better to be safe than sorry

I second every word you've said black knight  if the damage costs more than he can afford and it does become an insurance case, the liabilty could fall to you for the reasons stated. Also cos he's willing to pay cash he may want the car to go to a certain bodyshop has chosen by him.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thats exactly what we did, took it to an actual Toyota place and its coming back today all fixed up :) Blagged new rear lights out of it as well. :P (From a while ago when ANOTHER farmer reversed into us (when parked) in a jeep).

As i said earlier dad got a full writted signed report off the guy clearly stating what had happened and that it was entirely his fault, so he has paid up the £2500 it cost to fix the car.

Must post up pics later.

Glad to hear it :) I hear all the time at work people changing their story and it really sucks for the innocent one involved!
