0-60 is somewhere along the lines of 11.2, 1/4 mile, probably 17.5 don't expect to get more power out of the 5e.

Posted

dev, stop being so negative :P

dev is correct with the 0-60 and quarter mile, top speed is 113mph, 50-70mph in top gear is 12secs...thats all i can remember now

Posted

ive done a 0-60 test in mine and 1/4mile run, with all the extras on mine inc ICE, i ran a 0-60mph in 10secs and 1/4mile in 17secs.

Prob quicker on a stock one with the smaller wheels and less ICE to weigh it down!

well mine is goin the pod tomorrow has a new back box on and HKS induction kit so we will have to see

Jim

doubt they'll add upto much...

Posted

well i ran a 17.8 yeasterday not a great time but a start i get the feelin my pannel filter would of bin better than fittin my induction kit

jim

YUP!!!

That was not the greatest of times but to be fair with a induction kit and back box its not really going to chance the performace!

Backboxes just change the sound of the exhaust and the induction kits unless you have re-routed it to the other side of the Battery away from the engine heat will actually make the perfomrance worse as you'll just be drawing in hot air and defeating the point of a cold air feed!

Best advice, either re-route the induction kit useing samco hoses or put the old filter on with a new pannel.

cheers mate ill drop the old filter back in with my k&n pannel, what engines mods have you got on yours Matt, saw it at JAE its a stunning motor

im gonna get myself lots of heat tape and just cover everything in it, and maybe drill a hole at the bottom of the front part of the oem air reach for another route of air

Posted

well i have put all the old set up back in now with the k&N and it pulls better on higher revs i noticed yesterday from about 5K it was droppin off.

tryin to get a second cold air feed into it sounds like a good plan riko i may look at that myself

another idea i had, was of relocating the airbox up front (after relocating the battery) and thermosealing it, then using some proper and robust piping, connect them to the airbox, and seal everything up with heattape. ive noticed after driving that its always the rear section of the intake tract thats warmest, towards the airbox

Posted

you have bin thinking indeed. maybe worth doing a how to guide if you do it or getting the measurements so u could make up and sell it as a relocation kit

maybe, thing is, im getting in the deep end of all these motorsport clubs here at uni so i could learn a thing or two...

one that came to mind is utilising the same plastic polymer used for the intake manifold of the LS6 V8 (i believe that its used in the C6 corvette), which has excellent heat reflection properties. The rest of the intake tract could be made out of this too, redesigning it to have a dual chamber design (bigger chamber for volume leading into smaller chamber close to throttle body to increase air velocity), ditching the air resonator. could possibly retain a roughish surface in the tract to promote better fuel/air atomisation, but it introduces difficulties. create it to curve away from the engine, and then heat wrap it all to further insulate from heat...so that could be an idea...

Posted

what are you studying and where mate as wouldnt mind goin back to uni to do something like that. on refittin my standard set up yesterday i took the resonators out.

jim

Posted

well doing foundation engineering as of now, will move onto automotive or motorsport next year.

and did ye feel any difference without the resonators? id jus't figure a difference would be minimal...but more audible

Posted

cool

yeah basically just more audible mate but i guess a tiny bit better

ok, here's the deal. a panel filter's not going to be any better than a SRA intake with conical filter. first of all, the stock airbox is restrictive, even right up to the TB, so you're not getting as high a flow into the intake manifold. secondly, you're collecting air from ONE source, and the way the box is set up, you're getting air from a small gap by the transmission and header AKA HOT AIR. with a conical filter placed near the rear-ward part of the engine bay, you're collecting colder air with or without inductions from colder areas. keep in mind you still have to get that cold air very near the header and still manage to keep it cool.

as for the back box, it's not the most restrictive part of the exhaust, the catalytic converter is. if you want to see much better gains (5 hp) replace the entire system, from the header back. that's probably going to run you about £250. best bet is to leave the paseo alone if you're looking for performance. get another car, or save for a motor swap.

meh, well the air is actually taken from the leading edge of the bonnet, where the intake tract is (if you see the radiator panel, it dips next to where the bonnet latch is, creating a low pressure point), but yeah, its gets heated by the manifold etc..

Posted

and it cools down by the time it reaches the back of the bay.

Posted

yup :P
