New Model Avensis

Hi all my Dads seen a 2004 04 plate t-spirit 5 door avensis, it has the 2.0 D4 vvt-i unit anybody had problems with this unit. He has been looking to replace his current Avensis for the last few weeks, and i found this one on the used car section on the toyota site. It done 18550 miles and has got the full colour sat nav system in it and is priced at £12995. Apart from the tyre noise issue is there any major problems to look out for. The only problem his current avensis has is the steering noise problem he's had several racks and columbs, along with new pumps in 4.5 years and it still comes back within a few weeks. What made him more determind to change now is my corolla is drinking oil at a fast rate and he is worried his will go the same way has a lot of owners of 1.8 vvt-i have oil issues his has coverd 41k and is on a 2000 x plate and dont use a drop. All he wants is a car that will 'to put how he said it last night' see him through is final days, god he's only 53 .
