Squeak From Dashboard

I have a 8 month old Avensis, but have noticed squeak coming from dashboard

i have seen an earlier post that relates to this about the trim that runs along the top of the glovebox and the cup holder. When i push this it is unstable and squeaky, also the housing around the display of mileage, range etc also is squeaky. It has started to get noisier lately. Has anyone found a way to fix this.

Cheers

Hi Arthur

My Avensis about six months in had the same squeaks coming from the same points. If your car is only 8 months old then get it sorted under warranty, they will do it. Over the years, with different cars, I normally resolve them myself. The trim that runs along the dash with the cup holder in it does come off easily. The end nearest the wheel, bottom edge, place a small screw driver under the trim and pull it towards you. Using your fingers gently pull it away and work along towards the passenger door. The cup holder comes with it but remember to disconnect the wire from the alarm flashing light. I suggest you leave the ignition off. I obtained from Toyota a pack which is basically a box with foam and sticky trim to sort these type of problems out. Within the pack is a long piece of paper with long black thin sticky foam in it. About 500mm long by 5mm wide. On the trim you have just removed turn it around so that the clips are facing you. Run the above thin trims on both edges that touch the dash. In between the clips apply sticky foam, thicker stuff so that when you replace the trim you put the clips under more pressure, i.e. when replacing the trim you are compressing the foam. Before doing this you need to remove the centre part, the bit with the trip meter etc. After taking off the first trim you will notice that there are two screws holding in this part. Remove the screws and pull the centre piece away from the dash keeping it square. I think there are two or three wires to remove. These are plugs with a clip on them. Push the clip down and pull. Be careful and take your time. As before trim all edges that touch the dash and add foam to make things more solid. To place trims back, do the opposite as removal, i.e. start from the door and work back towards the wheel. Please take your time and be careful, it’s only plastic. Hope this helps.

Hi Hal

Thanks for that, where did you obtain the pack from, your local toyota garage

or a main distributor.

Arthur

Just pop to your local Toyota garage and tell them you have a squeak and you will sort it but can they supply you with a "Interior Noise Kit". That's what it says on my box. Should be free of charge. Good luck and let me know how you get on. Cheers

Hi Hal

Is there a product code on the box so I dont have to describe to the guy in the

service office what I'm looking for in detail, and also they might have to order it

in advance.

Thanks

I had this kit fitted by the dealer under warranty and it cured the creaks no problem.

Now I have a different buzz to annoy me - it seems to come from below the cd player and no amount of pushing or pulling or touching the fascia or anywhere else can stop it. I will let the dealer sort this out at the next service, if it doesnt drive me nuts first.

Anybody else had this??

Yes I have this annoying buzzing noise from within the dashboard on my 05 Corrolla 1.4 Colour collection. This normally occurs at speeds in excess of 30mph and sometimes depends on the outside temperature. Also a sort of cracking noise appears from approx the same area. I really dont fancy having the whole dashboard removed to sort out the problem as I am sure it would ever be the same again! However the noise is becoming so annoying that I should really get it seen to. I have read elsewhere that the windscreen bonding could be the culprit so I would be interested to hear from any other members if they also are experiencing the same problems.:help:

Ernie, Tezza...

My Avensis had a Bzzzzz which was eventually solved by having the windscrean replaced. It sounded like a very high repetition zzzz. and was one of those faults that came and went depending upon the road, wind conditions, wind direction, etc. If you have ever dirven past an airfield radar, and got a bzz on the radio, then that is the kind of frequency it sounded like.

Anyway, as I said, after several diagnosis trips to the garage they thought about the windscreen, rang autoglass, who said straight away, yep, it's the windscreen, they have done loads. They ordered new screen, replaced it, rebonded it and Robert's your Mum's Brother - fixed it.

Apparently the windscreen bonding - well, wasn't, so the wind and airflow at speed could leak into the cabin. Sort of like getting a grass leaf between your thumbs and blowing (but blowing really hard!). The garage did say they would add this fix to the Toyota fault database - but I dont know if such a thing exists, or if anyone looks at it anyway.:rolleyes:

My wife has a Corolla Verso and we had cracking noises coming from the top of the dash. Took it in and they removed the windscreen and found that part of the body work was raised and was touching, I guess the screen. They skimmed a piece off and refitted the screen. No cracking since.
