Leaking Pipe

I have a ST185 GT4 and am hoping someone has seen this before and knows how to deal with it.

I recently experienced a coolant leak which appears to come from one of the metal pipes that run behind the exhaust manifold, just to the side of the oil filter. There is a small section on rubber piping, maybe two inches long, connecting two sections of pipe which seems to have split. I've had a mechanic look at it, but he doesn't see a way of swapping the pipe without dropping out the turbo and possibly even the manifolds.

Surely even Toyota wouldn't make a perishable part so inaccessible?

If anyone can shed any light on an easier way I would be eternally grateful.

Hi Richard. It is indeed a pain. You might be able to get to it if you remove the cat/downpipe. Might be worth replacing it with a piece of silicon hose.

Nah.... i put all my left over nuts and bolts in there. Then when something falls off i know what was supposed to be holding it on.

Thanks for the advice.

I notice you have uprated manifolds fitted, which is something I have been considering, given that I'll effectivley have to pay most of the labour for it anyway. Did you encounter any problems having them fitted? I presume you did a de-cat downpipe at the same time.

Toyota do a replacement pipe with spring clips - very cheap suprisingly. The only way I could replace was by removing turbo and downpies. Took a good few hours.

No huge problems. You might have to trim a bit off one of the cylinder head lugs. (If you look carefully, the left hand most lug is chamfered) and the top mount has to be altered a bit. (Big hammer works) You might like to consider the Front mount I/C option while your at it. But this also entails a few probs. Mainly space.
