I Reached 70mpg After Burnt A Full Measurable Tank

Hi,

After more than 4 weeks driving, I now have “official" mpgs for my Yaris D-4D. It is amazingly 70 miles per gallon.

I bought the Yaris D-4D T-Spirit on August 21, 2005. It came with nearly “full” tank of diesel and immediately became my daily commuting vehicle. I live in west London and drive nearly 50 miles return daily to Woking. I was very keen to do this mpg test but had to wait until the last bar flashes, a measurable sign to start a full tank for testing. It happened in the Monday morning, September 5th, on my way to Woking. Almost immediately I drove to a Shell station and filled fully the diesel tank: 36.60 litres with total cost of £34.73 at the price of 94.9p per litre

After 2 weeks + 2 weekend shoppings + nearly 2 more days, I finally saw the last bar flashing again today. The mile reading was 579.5

The followings are my calculations:

· £34.75 for 579.5 miles or £35 for 570 miles (to cover any possible timing errors)

==> driving 1 mile costs 6.14p

· 36.6 litres for 570 miles

· 1 Gallon = 4.546 litres

==> One gallon can drive 4.546*570/36.6 = 70.80 (mpg)

My average speed displayed after the whole testing period is 30mph.

The test continues ...

Happy driving!

Mark

This is totally believeable. I regularly record over 60 and I average over 40mph to a tankfull (significantly cleared roads :lol: )

I'm glad you're enjoying the car :thumbsup:

I have to work mine out for the last couple of months...

Up until I last did it it was sitting at 55.4 but I normally average over 40mph per tank (around 500 miles) because of the clearer roads and, erm, faster moving traffic.

Edit:

My best is 64.77mpg - avg speed of 40mph - over 433.2 miles. Just the other week when diesel prices were going through the roof...

That's great economy, I knew it was economical anyway but reading that prooves it a bit more :thumbsup:

I managed to get 370 miles to a tank in my 1.3 on 95 Ron Unleaded, when I had a look at the average consumption tonight she was at 42.6 mpg which isnt bad ;)
