Well the !Removed! get 400hp+ out of theirs...

Yes I know, and I still feel a twinge coming on

Posted

400 bhp from a 1.5 turbo= very highly stressed components and a potential money pit. go for it though

Posted

Don't think I could afford to go for 400bhp and doubt if I'd want to go that far, certainly not with the 5efe, BUT, and that's a big but, 250bhp does seem achievable for a reasonable input of £££

dale (at braidedlines) offers everything needed in the kit, plus the turbo and intercooler separately...and i think he's just developed a monster charge cooler now...

Posted

yeah totally riko.

i know u guys want some reliable decent power outa ur paseos but to be honest ive been in a few mildly tuned 4efte cars and they would be plenty quick enough for me... :D

altho im a fan of sorted power to weight... ie light car, light powerful little engine.

just my opinion.

Rich.

I've seen the 4efe kit on their site but aren't they using standard internals on that?

Andrew do you have any links to the sites showing the 400bhp jap ones? Would be interesting to have a look what parts they are using

Riko did you ever get a price on the kit from braidedlines..com?

ive seen the 400hp sera, its on andrews site i think, and i swear i had an article that showed 3 starlets, one was the hks one, and they had outrageous power, will have to fish for that...

and daz, indeed i did get the prices, which were quite reasonable really, i think all in all, with turbo, with intercooler, and all auxillaries, it came to around £1100? i think...

Posted

i think you didnt add up the ecu and alot of other bits mate, he quoted me £2200 full kit with a plug in microtech with a rough map already uploaded. ur price is probably without a turbo, the turbo also needs some work to fit properly.

still very reasonable.

Rich.

and yes, it was on standard internals.

there is no 400 bhp sera. there are pictures of a japanese sera on the site with a claimed 300 bhp from a 1.5 turbo "hybrid". i say claimed cos i have never seen a printout. have you?

http://seraturbo.net/~peace/sera-s/001.html

claims 400ps

tim has some specs of another from japan but the sites down and being rebuilt.

sorry rich, the price i quoted was without the microtech lt8 thing added in, but was with turbo....cause i remember that the kit EXCLUDING turbo and intercooler ran at about £550, and the turbo + intercooler ran at about the same...

i may be a bit out but not by that much. and to rolla, yeah i was mistaken about the 400hp, its the 300hp 6-speed one on andrew's site, but i have heard of 400hp +...if it can be done on starlet 5e hybrids, it too can be done on sera's...meh...lucky people

440ps (about 432hp ish) from a 5e hybrid...

Posted

Well I've sent them an email to get pricing and info as this seems like the option to go for

Posted

good on ya, so you can tell us how good the kit is for when we buy it

Still worried about the strength of the stock internals though

Posted

upgrade 'em then :P

From what I've been reading on other forums you can fit 4efte pistons and 5efhe rods to the 5efe block, so that would also lower the compression. My head hurts now, trying to take in too much info at once  :D

Posted

yeah, cause as you know, high compression ratio + boost isn't really a good combination....well unless its a diesel cause they require a huge compression ratio just to ignite the stuff! anyways, the dish in the 4efte pistons will lower the compression ratio in the 5efe, hence putting less of a strain on the rods, pistons etc, and the 5efhe rods are just supposed to be quite beefy, so i would presume that its just an insurance kinda thing really

Got a reply from Dale today, top bloke for being so quick to respond  Price is good too at around £1500 for the kit. But when you add on freight costs and possibly import duty? I think the price may spiral :( :(

Its looking to be quite a lot cheaper and easier to settle for the 4efte straight swap ;)

Then maybe at a later date when the bank manager is speaking to me again using the 5efe block with forged pistons and stronger rods to make a 5efte ;)

Posted

forget that, when i eventually get my cynos i will get the dale kit...however...my uncle's been asking me to try out a student exchange in australia...could be interesting...

edit: thank you admins for your amusing note :P

sorry to go off topic... where would you end up in Aus Riko?

Posted

i think he's at swinburne uni? wherever that is

Posted

Daz costs can soon spiral out of control i should know  but if you buy from the right places you should be fine mate 200 - 250max can be had on stock internals but it all depends on the tune.

It's all well and good looking at dale's microtech ecu's but first you will have to find someone over here to map it for you. Find an engine tuner you are happy with then ask him what ecu's he would be happy tuning.
