New Gt4 Owner - Few Things I'd Like To Know.

Hi All,

Just buying an L-reg GT4 Gen 6. Jet black, few mods including spanking new 18" trims with Toyo Proxis and full stainless pipe, K&N Induction, Turbo timer, Blitz boost control and a few more.

47k miles - £4300 (I thought the price was good, but I'm open to advice on this)

Just wondered what I needed to be aware of and if people could advise me on a few specific queries. Many of my queries I have answered by looking through the site, but others I have missed the answers to or they weren't there. Any other advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.

Clutch - does this usually go around 60k miles. How much to have one fitted (approx)

Figure of 8 pieces (very vague I know - my knowledge is very limited) on the suspension. What exactly are they and when will they likely need changing and the cost.

Cam belt - has been changed at 30k miles. When should I do it again and cost.

Cheers to those who've took the time to read this. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to help newbies out.

All the best James.

James.. Welcome to TOC  And in particular congratulations on buying a Celica. The Gen 6 GT4 is a stunning piece of machinery as i`m sure you`ll come to appreciate.

I`m not particularly eu fait with the gen6 (Mines the good lookin Gen 5  ) But they are pretty similar in most departments. The clutch can last as long as 100K with care. or if the cars been abused you`d be lucky to see 30K. It`s an expensive job when it does go. Engine out etc. Mr T would charge you several limbs plus a couple of pints of blood to do it. However there are plenty of independent garages that are perfectly capable of doing the job for a lot less. Budget for around £500 and you`ll be ok. The figure 8`s are superstrut components and apparently go around the 60 - 70K mark. Not too sure of the cost but i believe you`ll be looking at around £300 pounds per side????

If you hang on i`m sure GT4 Booster will be along. He`s the man who can give you the necessary info. Also you can nip over to GT4OC.net and ask the guys over there. Clicky.

Once again welcome to the club. Hope you enjoy your stay with us and the car. :D

Oh by the way.. You`ll be badgered to get pics up ASAP. We love pics cos we find it hard to read.:thumbsup:

clutch can be done for around 200 -250 plus parts.at mr.clutch outlets.clutch can last 150 k dependant purely on driving style , as you cant wheel spin a gt4 it should last a long time.unless you do 6000 rpm take offs.

http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/ look here for super strut parts . fig of 8 plus camber control arm is what you will most likely need as and when you hear a constant knocking and crunching from either front side usually drivers .

cam belt i'd say change every at intervals similar to that of most cars unsure on this , usually 36000 or 3 yrs which ever is sooner.cost can be £300 - if i;m wrong please feel free to correct me.

Engine out to do the clutch? :o I take it that's due to the 4wd transmission? I think the FWD ones can be done without engine removal.

Yes i believe your right with the FWD models Mike. It`s a nightmare on the 4`s. It can be done with the engine in but it`s tight and time consuming. Easier just to drop the lot.

For the cambelt the book says 60K or 5 years. But i`d be inclined to go with GT$ BOOSTER 3 years 36K... Cheap insurance really.
