thats right

with the vvti the timing is dependant on the cams, if you change them and mess up the system its gonna go beserk! so you need some way of modding the vvti control aswell

they do make cams for the yaris, vitz. there are a few people in hong kong who have done it. but i hear that the power gains are not that good and its not worth doing as when you replace the cams, you have to think about valve bits and bobs too. better to go turbo mate.

well its better to know what all your options are instead of saying, if its not worth it then i dont want to find out what can be done.

I would think the cam profiles would not be that extreme on the yaris so there should be some margin for 'error' improvement. and the vvt-i its not like a vtec change in timing either.

Zeb where did you hear about the people in japan?

I know the main HKS dealer in hong kong, friends. I get a lot of bits from them, hence cheap cheap. the timing thing about the vtec is right.

vtec is for pull and peformance and vvti.... sadly is for granny economy.

the toyota cams for the yaris are pretty much dialed out to a Tee. not much room for improvement, hence the gains are NOTICABLE, but only a little.

the std cams arnt wild at all nick, but as said they are perfectly setup to run with the fancy crap thats in there

the best bet i would say in ultimate tune is to bin the vvti somehow and then just get a normal wild cam. would be loads easier, more reliable and less teething problems

after all the vvti is just to help engine econmic performance unless its the 'lift' system on the corolla/celica which is similar to VTEC

we talked about this before. what would be involved in removing the vvti and how would timing work.
