Guys, the 00 mk1 avensis i bought last week won't start this evening. I last drove it on Sunday. Tonite, at first my remote won't unlock the car. then i unlock the car manually with the key. all the electrics are down, car won't start. lock the car back up with key, noticed by now the blinking red light of the alarm is not on so probably the Battery problem, and not remote key problem. is my diagnosis correct? any suggestions?

only got 1 key from my dealer.

If everything is dead, then that does sound like the Battery.

Bear in mind, once flat, car batteries are never the same. Sounds like it's due a change...

any idea of the cost of a new Battery? and why is this happening?

If you just got the car from a toyota dealer take it back and get them to fit a new Battery as they should not let the car go out like that !

As for keys the avensis came with 2 remote keys and a gray (sub) key if you only have one key there are 2 more out there ! I would go back and complain and get them to supply at least one more remote key (the last one I coded in cost over £100 after coding!) if you lose the last key you have to replace the ECU (engine computer) these cost over £700 !
