Hi peeps....

the gen 7 1.8VVTi engines in the 140break and the 190break are exactly the same apart from the ECU's right??! (making the vvti lump run more efficiently) - so does this mean by wiring an ECU from a 190bhp into a 140 would shoot it up to 190??

Sorry, but no. not by a long stretch.

The 190 has completely different head with high lift cams. Also its cylinder sleeves are built to withstand higher revs. And those are only the main differences.

[EDIT]

190 Brake Engine is actually VVTL-i. Indicating the variable Lift feature of the engine.

VVTLi Engine

... and different bore and stroke as well!

You could swap the ECU's, but you'd need to swap the engine and gearbox as well. ;)

I suggest then that Parkers have made a mistake. I used to have a 190 and had problems over its designation every time I rang insurance companies. I think quite a few car databases struggle with the fact that there are two engines that are the same capacity but have very different performance.

Re more horse power from your car, there are other performance mods that you can do to the 140 engine. NOS for example? That may not suit your needs in which case trading your car for a 190 is probably the cheapest option.

I have the same problem when getting my insurance - they always put it down as T-Sport VVTi

Anyway, sorry to be pedantic but the two engines have slightly different capacities. The VVT is 1794 cc and the VVTL-i is 1796cc.

ok...thanks...here's the page anyway so you can get cheesed off with parkers :-D

http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/de...spare1=&spare2=

check out:

1.8 VVTi (190ps) 3d -- note lack of variable lift - ubiks!! plus 1794cc putting out 190break ya wha!

&

1.8 VVTLi T Sport 3d -- variable lift and 1796cc

No wonder ppl can get confused...thanks for the info though guys you have cleared that up for me! :-)
