Hi there im new to the forum unfortunatley i got my old punto 1.2 sporting written off about a month ago and i was in my local toyota garage and they are getting a y reg thunder t sport in its had one lady owner and done 15k miles..

They want £6500 for it i have £2200 from insurance so it will be costing me £4300 i was just wondering if this is a good deal ( i know the price is higher being from a dealership ) i havent actually driven it yet because they havent got it in till next week but themore i look at them the more i like them..

Any advice on problems to look for etc would be most appreciated..

Cheers

No real problems to look out for mate but just take a test drive and see if it sounds and goes okay!

I'm sure you will not be disappointed with it (if its in good condition) and it'll be quite a bit faster than your Punto aswell!

Welcome to the club also mate, let us know what you decide to do! :D

Welcome to TOC!

I got my car from the dealership too ....... and dont forget that if there are any problems with it you will be able to get it fixed under warranty, thats if there are any problems!

The yaris is a cracking car and I can't fault it one bit, i've had mine for 3 months now and its the best car i've ever had  !

Good choice!

Haggle with the dealer a bit, you could probably get it a bit cheaper - start at £6k just to be cheeky and work your way up - play your cards right and you could get a right bargain!

HOW MUCH?!?!?!?! Waaaay too much. There's a car advertised near me for £6200 and that's an 03 plate car with 19,000 miles on the clock!! Granted, it's not a 'Yota dealer, but it's a garage forecourt jobbie... that's too much to pay, way too much to pay.

This is the info from Parkers, a reputable valuer of 2nd hand cars:

Cost New ('01) £ 11995

Franchised Dealer £ 5440

Independent Dealer £ 4880

Private Good £ 4440

Private Poor £ 3680

Part Exchange £ 4080

As you can see, the price quoted is too high, even if you factor in the low mileage it's too high. £5,800 would be an absolute maximum, anymore is just daft.

On the subject of the cars, the engines are bomb proof and brilliant things they are too, willing to rev, easy to drive and plenty of ooomph at all speeds and gears. (Go above 3500k revs for best performance though)

The car has loads of equipment (air-con, 4 airbags, cd, sporty dials, sports seats, nice bodykit etc etc) The fit and finish is great, loads of storage places, loads of room.

Excellent handling and willing to be driven pretty hard and fast, and rewarding doing so.

In terms of problems, the main one's are rattles... they plague many a Yaris and if there are going to be any problems with it it'll be with the suspension as it's quite firm and the UK roads don't agree with it all too well.

Hope you get a good one for a good price and welcome to the club!

P.S. My mum had Sporting Punto a few years back... she enjoyed it because it was red. I disliked it because it tried to kill me... we had a steep drive at the time and the handbrake decided it wasn't going to work and it rolled down into the street knocking me off my bike! Grr!

hmmz that seems well overpriced.

I got my 53 plate for just under 6k privately.....

6.5k for a Y reg seems pretty expensive to me, looking around, its at least 1k more than you would expect to pay privately, i s'pose you do get the "toyota checked it" peace of mind.

And the warranty and years tax etc, toyota do a hpi check and service it before they sell it.

It sounded pricey to me ill try get the salesman down but i have been without a car for a month now so im desperate to get something i cant really look around as i have no transportation..

mate there **** loads of threads on this have alook about, wihtout putting you off the yaris is a little mod unfriendly compaed to others cars.

you gotta rember a yaris t sport isnt as mani stream as other cars in terms of modding etc e.g ****ty sxos and corsa.

Its a better car and more rare which i like.

heres some of the best mods that are available and give some good adavantges

1.apexi air filter - excellant filteration

2.de cat pipe from "envy", or sports cat for the eco frienldy

3.manifold from envy

4.tte, pi or other manfacturer lowerign springs

5. Fujitsubu backbox etc from envy, and sebring etc - not too many backbox manfucatueres about for yaris t sport

the yaris 105bhp standard with these mods and deending on car a little, you can get in the range of 120bhp+

best examples knightrider, chriscavana and chucko4

oh and not forgetting kimi supercharged yaris!

Hi, I've just been to Toyota's site and done a used car (nationwide) search for Yaris with 1.5 litre engine so it only found T Sports.

2003 Jan, 03 plate 18576 miles - £6995

2001 Oct, 33000 miles - £5995

2002 Jan, 51 plate 33749 miles - £5995

2002 Jul, 02 plate 24000 miles - £6995

Would seem to be a bit expensive as those examples are from dealers too.

Try the search yourself, mate and see what's available. Might give you a better idea what to offer them.

That sounds a tad expensive to me considering you a 2005 55 plate 1.4 d-4d T3 5door for £7500 (it's got 1000 miles on the clock) from Colchester Toyota dealership.
