Avensis Vsc

Hi Guys,

On my Avensis I have a VSC button, which I am guessing is traction control. Thing is, sometimes I get a bit of wheel spin when pulling away rapidly on wet roads, and then the little 'slick road' light flashes on. Surely that's the point of traction control, to stop wheel spin? Well, that's how it worked on my old Vectra, it would cut the power if the wheels spun too quickly.

Different set ups will have varying degrees to when they cut in and interfere. Some will allow a little more wheel spin than others. Also, VSC says vehicle stability control to me. Which is normally to help contain skids etc when cornering or whatever too.

Basic traction control is just the reverse of ABS. Abs stops the wheels locking under braking, and traction control stops them spinning during accelleration.

Stuart is right. VSC is the Vehicle Stability Control, to correct over steer or under steer, whereas Traction control stops the front wheels spinning under acceleration.

However, neither system is activated until the car is doing between 5 and 10 mph. So it is still possible to spin the wheels until the Traction Control kicks in.

Hi Mike -

I had the same light flash on my Corolla Verso yesterday, upon pull-off on a bit of gravel. The wheels spun though. I do however have a habit with any car to sub-contiously tap-off as the wheels spin, so I don't know at which point my Verso's wheels would stop spinning should I keep my foot down. I will try that one day.

Regards

Erwin
