Try looking at my website for lots of info. When I started I went for exhaust back box, air filter, superchip but it really doesn't do a lot because this engine is the "economy" version - the performance version was the 4a-ge as used in the Corolla GTi and Mk 1 MR2. Later I got some real power with the supercharger 4a-gze engine transplant but it's the expensive way to get more performance - I wou;dn't do it again. The best way is buy a car that has more go in the first place.

you COULD fit a 16 or 20 valve 4age head on your 4afe, but you would have to use a suitable 4age computer or else aftermarket. u would need to sort out fueling and other stuff besides.

after spending loads or money doing all that, you would be left with an engine that although up on power from the 4afe, would not be as good as a 4age transplant, due to its inferior internal parts.

swap is the only way really

I agree :lol::lol:

If you want more power get another car. Or if you want to go the route of me and john just make sure you have deep pockets :crybaby::crybaby:

3sgte would be a great transplant if you wanted some mega power in thr future

I've seen the AE102 Fensport did with a 3sgte transplant, how much do you think something like that would cost?

would really like that engine in mine :D or the 4agze :D

Some info on performance upgrades for you.

Turbo kits are available from the US, I nearly imported one myself, but funds didn't allow due to moving out lol! :( these are good for 200+bhp, but the pipework may need altering due to being from a US version 4afe.

Other then that you can add induction kit, full exhuast system, including decat and 4-2-1 manifold, I would suggest a E-manage for ecu upgrade and then possibly look at some custom cams.

Costing for N/A route

Induction kit - £50-£100

Exhaust - £400+

Decat - £100

4-2-1 manifold £150-£200

Emanage - £300

Cams - £200

So for around a £1,300 you would see around 130-150bhp, rolling road will be required along the way also. The car would be very responsive and should be reliable too. lol I'm sure you won't want to spend that much, just giving you a general idea of the costs, but it can be done.

Turbo kit costs £2,500 then you'll have fitting and loads more costs!

Do induction kits work on the 1.6 afe? I've heard a lot of conflicting info about heat soak etc etc. Anyone tried just an induction kit without a cold air feed? What happened?

Well mine's fitted with one and prior to the bonnet scoop being blended in performed just fine, that was with very little cold air directed at it.

In fact I didn't even use the cold air feed K&N sold with the kit as you had to route it underneath the car, fat lot of good that would do for cold air.

Since the bonnet scoop, in cold conditions you can really notice a difference in performance as the filter is directly below the scoop.

I have a even larger hole in the scoop thanks to the wandering brick that hit my car on the M1 yesterday, see general chat for the post :(

So you'd definitely recommend an induction kit for increased performance on the afe?

Sorry to hear about your accident there.
