Voice Control For Car Audio?

I have an Avensis 04 plate T3-X (second hand). In the owners manual it says that there is a voice control feature built into the steering wheel for the radio. This does not appear to work on my car and was wondering if anyone could advise if this is a feature that can be enabeld quite easily or if it is only avaiable on something like the TSpirit models. Apparently in cars like the Prius if you have SatNav this works as standard. Thanks

I was under the impression that this feature wasn't enabled on the T3-x (same as mine). It would be cool, but I think it needs an extra box, probably from the satnav.

If there is a hack available - like that for disabling the tones and beeps, i'd be interested too!

The voice control of the audio system needs the sat nav option installed.

But it really isn't worth investigating to make it work without the sat nav as the voice controls for the audio system are not much use! (I have the sat nav installed but never use the voice controls for the audio system as it is MUCH faster and more accurate to just use the buttons!)

As far as the voice controls for the sat nav are concerned - that's another matter - Very handy!

I would not mind if I have to add a box to enable the voice control. Maybe someone in the forums is more familiar with how this works and can advise as to what part is needed and give an idea of how to install it. I am quite happy to shop around the local car breakers to try and find a part. Better that than have to pay an extortionate fee to my local toyota dealership to install something that maybe a minor job with the correct parts (if possible).

Muppet99, I have SatNav in my T3-X but the voice control does not seem to be enabled. Do you have the SatNav with the colour screen? I assume that VC is not down to whether or not you have SatNav in the car; rather reliant on an additional feature that maybe tied into the hands free phone option or the colour SatNav system.

I think (if i'm not very muhc mistaken) that you have hit the nail on the head.

I'm sure that the Voice Control is only connected when you have the full Screen Colour DVD based Sat Nav. My friend has a T-Spirit with such a system, and it does work. My Boss has a T-spirit with the standard sat nav and it isn't fitted.

Cheers

Andrew

Sorry, I should have made it clear that I have a T3-X with the full colour sat nav installed.

I knew what I was on about at least!!!
