Issues Changing Front Wheel Bearings?

anyone ever had any issues changing the front wheel bearings? My outer cv joint has snapped because of my collapsed wheel bearing.

part of the wheel bearing is stuck on the hub... in the past (on 3 other cars) ive just cut this off carefully and had no problems but ive heard people needing new hubs for my car? any ideas why :help:

Cant help you specifically with the toyota byt I've also had this on cars and cut the the bearing our. I roast it and slowly tapped the housing out with a chisel. Neaver had to replace a hub yet, but then you know what cars are like. It's the cost of the bearing to build it with the existing hub sgsinst the cost of the new hub's

Cut it as you have done before and have a good examination of the housing to look for damage. If you can't see any I would build it and see. if there's no play and it's quiet super!

Just a bit of a tip. If you cut a groove in the old bearing with a grinderette (Taking care not to go through to the hub) as far as you can and then give it a sharp blow with a cold chisel and decent hammer (16oz) it should crack the bearing right through. Makes getting it out a whole lot easier.

I cant see any reason for replacing the hub unless it`s significantly damaged.

I think the cars that needed new hubs only did because the bearing got in such a mess that the inner Shell turned on the hub?

It should be possible to remove the bearing using the methods described above. Be very careful not to nick the hub if you use an angle grinder.

I soooo want one of those for my garage!!!

Yep as Dak said I split the bearing but I had access to a small set of burning gear with a tiny head between this and the small air grinder and a cold chisel it took about half an hour to actually get the bearing out. I was at a minted garage, I would have been longer if I was at my own set up.

There's defo consensus to try the same hub then

ok sold. Ill give that a try :D. thanks for your help

having trouble finding a bearing the correct size now ffs.

The outer CV joint that fits is from the older 182. Weird. Im gonna have to try the bearing from the 182 now to see if that works.... !Removed! imports :(

don't know m8 but my mech (ex toyota mech) replaced a front gt4 bearing which needed a new hub , he mentioned that the hub was £80 and a few others on celica-club have mentioned they have paid about the same

Its hard to figure out how long Cheaptoyotaparts will take to deliver parts as they first have to buy from Toyota .. when i needed a new rear hub i wanted to order on the tue so that i would have it by the weekend , they said they wouldn't be able to get it to me till the following tues so had to pay an extra £30 to get it from Toyota

the front hubs for my car are £70 + VAT

they then want 80+vat for a bearing and 30 +Vat for the seals

got a bearing with seals for 33+vat from andrew page so that wasnt too bad :)
