No wonder they had problems - it's a Peugeot!!!!

:D

I got a mate who works for them at their Northampton branch, and he would NEVER, EVER buy one!

Dunno why people have got a fear of the French built Yaris. No problems with mine.

They'll be built exactly the same as in Japan, and are the same car...

On the old ones or new? I like my little sticker but theyre all the same parts so it doesnt matter where the new one is built! Its just a psycological thing for some people i think! if its japanese built its better than french as the company is japanese etc

its also that a lot of things are Qc'd by the !Removed!.

i just really wouldnt buy a french built car

Fair play, but it's a bit unfair to tar them all with the same brush seeing as they are different manufacturers ;)

maybe i should rephase that to i wouldnt buy renaults or peugeots, considering stories ive heard and actually things ive seen.

It was so funny, as my mate got a 1.6 pug the rev counter bouncing up and down and the air con wouldnt work! it was new as well.

then my other mate, i warned her i said dont buy one, she did and the sunroof leaked and elec windows and stuff didnt work. lol

I havent had one prob with my jap designed and built yaris!

saying that the uk cant even build our own cars, simply because we dont own any car manfactuing companys, and look at mg! dear oh dear, very sad indeed!.

shame becuase i liked the look on the last batch of zr etc and all that heritage gone to waste :( , even though they were last weeks dinner re heated! :D

Yeah, I like my sticker but it's been coming off for months, seems like it's on it's last legs now though, I keep having to push it back every few minutes, might have to get some sellotape on it or something soon.

I think its mostly down to how much money a company has to spend on R&D on a car and not down to where it is built, like the Avensis it was designed and built in Europe for Europe and was never meant to be sold in Japan. if a car is well designed in the first place and put together correctly it does not matter where it is built again like Toyota, Yaris in France, Corolla in Turkey, aygo built by elves in a Lego factory and countless other models in different country.

What I see from other brands if an error arises then nothing is done about it and they just keep knocking them out. its the old cost ratio problem, like in the aircraft industry, what they have worked out is the that a Human is worth $25 million which is the average payout in the case of an accident, if a safety recall/refit costs more than $25 million then it will not be recalled as it would be cheaper to let someone die and pay the money to the family.

The same cost ratio is also used by car builders, if it’s cheaper to fix the problem on cars that the customers complain about than recalling the whole model then they will just let the problem continue unless the customer complains. Ford in the late 70`s where famous for this, the fuel tank in a car called a Pinto in which if hit from behind would explode, so the worked out that again that it would cost less to pay out to the family’s of customers who died in accidents than recall the whole production. So they let the problem continue and keep building the same car knowing that it was dangerous and could kill.

I know of a few car builders who use this cost ratio to access the cost/benefit of recalling and just let them continue without doing anything about it. From my own point of view working for Saab is great, right the new 93 was rushed into production and we did have a few problem with her but what Saab do which no other car maker does is once a year in august they stop production and update the whole car and correct any problem which have being identified during the year. So in other words it’s a updated car every year, so in the case of the new 93 we are up to the 5 production update or Model year as they call it to what is now call model year 06, it a great system and they let us know what they have updated so we can update customers car.

As ye know we sell a few brands here and one of the builds is a right pain, they have a system on one of there model that in constant city driving will send the car into safe mode and limit the top speed to 15 mph, every car fitted with this system if driven in constant city driving will result in this problem, so the car maker has opted to only fix the cars that customer complain about. Now this is great for the customers who complain now but when the warranty runs out what happens then??????????

So to sum up it’s all down to R&D and if you fu_k it up do the right thing and fix it
