Auto Stalling Again

Posted a while back about my auto stalling. Its now done it again, twice in a week and both when I was pulling out of junctions. Downright suicidal. Phoned the dealer and they can't get me in for well over a week. Great.

I'm sure its the revs-i'm showing about 600rpm at idle sometimes, combine this with the auto box changing down and you have very low revs, thus stalling. My observation only-could be something more serious though.

Could you try another dealer?

There are loads of things that could be causing that. It may be the engine that's at fault, or the gearbox being slow to change/ not changing at all.

If the car is under warranty, you wanna start making a point of it. That is downright dangerous, and therefore the dealer should make an effort!

Have a sneaking suspicion that idle speed on an auto should be 800rpm (600rpm on a manual) but this is working from memory

My Avensis sometimes stalls when pulling out of junctions then does not start until it cools down a bit. Let us know if you come up with a solution to this?

I've had that a few times as well. Might have a work with my local Toyota Dealer as well.

Glad it isn't just me. But not glad it is happening at all! I'm hoping it is the revs. Noticed recently that when coming to a halt, the engine does 'rumble' a bit, like just before its going to stall, and the rev counter shows 600rpm before it climbs back up to 7 or 800rpm.

My '53 plate T-Spirit will drop its engine speed from around 800 rpm to about 600 or 700 rpm when idling.

I believe that it is caused by the load exerted on the engine as the air con. cuts in and out. When the air con. is switched to manual, the erratic idling is removed.

Sounds a good idea, but I didn't have the air-con on, or in auto! With that on I expect it would drop slightly more than it does now!

Touch wood no more cases, but I'll see what the dealer says next week.

Update!

Had the car in at the dealer.....and nothing! They couldn't find anything wrong with it.

So they are going to raise the issue with Toyota and see if they can come up with an issue/solution.

I did mention the gruff rattling noise when the engine is cold and they said that is something to do with the alternator belt and some bearings which rattle(?). A known problem which they can fix. Oh well, we continue!
