What To Do With New Celica!

I bought my first celica the other day. Silver 1.8 ST as thats all the insurance would allow me! Now i need to get it ready to mod. Bit unsure of which way to go though.

Ive got a Subaru Impreza WRX exhaust sitting in the garage which id quite like to fit on it. Would it be possible to get that exhaust in place of the standard?

Ive been reading up on induction also and am not to sure of which route to take with it. Panel filter or complete cold air intake or drilling holes which i have no idea about. What would give the best throttle response? Which would give the nicest sound? Blitz or K&N??

Also had anyone got a fair amount of experiance on I.C.E on one of these. As in full speaker change, monitors etc? If so id love to hear from you.

Its a nice project car. Just hope to get it as nice as some of the ones ive seen on here!

Hi Dino,

welcome to TOC

As far as intake, from what I've read the TRd panel filter (+drilled air box??) is the best for the job - I've got mine on order! More expensive than the others, but apparently worth it.

That's all I can help you with, there'll be a few suggestions along shortly. :)

Welcome to the club.

Only thing I can help with is the ICE bit...

Stereo, can be a bit of a pain to fit, hope you're good with a file.

You'll have to get adapters for the Speakers, either make your own or get them on the net, but they ain't easy to find.

id say flog the scooby zorst for a pretty penny to some rally wannabe and then treat yourself to a new one for the celica, much less hassle

Congrats on your 1st Celica

Ive just turned 19. Been after a celica for months now and settled with Tesco in the end who would only insure oncec i turned 19!

So its as simple as drilling a few holes in the bottom of the airbox and putting in a panel filter? Ive always thought a complete induction would of given the best results but reading up on here i saw most people just prefer to change the panel filter. I may have to get my TRD on order soon. Where did you get it from?

Im big on ICE so ill probally be asking a fair few questions! From what i read the CD player seemed a doddle to fit? Ive got the CD player on order along with the wiring harness and Din pocket. Should be here within a few days hopefully. Is it not just a case of taking away the plastic trim around the gearbox, unscrewing the dash trim and replacing? Where does the filing come into it? Im quite handy with installing ICE but never had to mess around with the dash before. I havnt had time to look at any of the Speakers yet. Been too busy enjoying the drive of the car.

I may have to do that. Ive read theres some places that do custom ones to the way you want them?

Thanks for everyones replies so far. Looks like im going to enjoy fixing up this car!

If you can only just afford the insurance for an ST, then you may find that modifications make you un-insurable. Best check it out before you get any big ideas. I would have thought a standard GT would be cheaper to insure than a modded ST?

It's not the value of the mods, or the effects they create (afterall the difference a filter and exhaust will make is next to none), but insurance companies don't like non standard cars full stop.

Ive already gone through a lot of the mods with the insurance company already and theyre allowing it. All does it raise my insurance slightly. Insurance on a GT was a no go however. Not quite sure how and why

with the custom exhaust, that was the option i what for on my import gen 6.

Power flow did what i wanted in 4 hours and cost i think it was about £240

"Where does the filing come into it?"

Well my stereo was actually wider than the standard toyota one, so I ended up having to file at the edges to get it to fit. But mabye clarion just like to be strange with there stereos.

For the Airbox, if you're drilling holes in the bottom, run some tube to the bottom of the car to stop the airbox from taking in hot air from the engine.

My stereos on order so havnt had the chance to check the size but when i was looking at the double din before it did look as though ut would be a flush fit. Just goin to have to wait for the stereo to arrive i guess.

Im still looking around for a filter panel. Soon as ive found one ill get drilling my airbox with the hope of nothing going wrong with it!
