I really want to change the seats in my gen6 96 celica st to leather ones but can not find a set out of another gen6 any where. I was wondering if i could put the seats out of a gen7 in if i manage to find them.

Otherwise i think i will have to save up for a retrim been qouted £850 for one colour down the midle of the seat and another on the other sections with alternate coloured stiching.

someone on here just got a gen 6 leather interior from a breakers for £100!

someone on celica-cub reckoned they had gen7 fronts in but they had to build new rails it wasn't a case of them just fitting.

£850 sounds a lot, I think they were doing a retrim group buy (again I think it was celica-club) and I'm sure they were more like 2-300

Something else to bare in mind is how 'hugged' you want to be. The G7 seats, although very very comfortable, aren't very huggy (its my one major gripe about the interior of the G7). But from what I remember the G6 seats are more like the Mk2 MR2 seats which are very huggy. Personal choice, obviously, but something to think about before you part with your pennies...

The £100 leather interior was me!

Rang up my local breakers yards looking for a new centre arm rest & centre dash trim and the first place I contacted said yeah sure we have those parts and the car has a full leather interior too, you can have the whole interior for £100, of course I bit his hand off and took the day off work on monday to go down there and seel the deal.

I looked into a leather retrim and the group buys & 7gen seats etc... and they all seemed way over priced or loads of hastle for what you get in return. I would just recommend ringing round every breakers until you find one with leather interior. Granted, I was very lucky to get my hands on this deal (clearly the breakers had no clue of the rarety of the leather seats) but I suggest you keep trying to find the leather seats at a breakers yard.

  • 2 weeks later...

With Gen 7 Seats the rears will just drop in like the Gen 6 ones - you will have about an extra nch clearance at the sides. You'll need to remove 4 bolts to fit the backs - leave the brackets in place as they are the same you can just git the padded backs. The base of the seat just clips in.

With the fronts you need to remove the mounting brackets from the Gen 7 seat rails and remove the Gen 6 ones from your seats and have the Gen 6 brackets welded onto the Gen 7 runners. These allow all the functions to remain - it is about 1-2inches further back but it's not majorly noticeable.

I've had it done and it's one of my favourite mods - got he black leather Gen 7 Seats with CELICA embossed on them. Cost me £450 from a breakers and then £100 to get the welding done.

try and find out what year car they were taken from. Early editions of the Gen 7 had a vinyl rear seat cover rather than leather for the whole set of seats.

When you say there is an inch gap in the back either side of the seats - does it look daft??? Have you got any pictures?

And finally does the gen 7 seats give you any more or less headroom?

Cheers

Funnily enough, my dad has gone and bought a gen7 vvti (with nice 17" wheels). I guess he got jealos

It seems fractionally less roomy in the back, for your head and legs. But its a fairly similar cramped affair.

here ya go.. it's about an inch but not majorly noticeable.

the one thing i don't like on the Gen 7 rear seats is that they don't have that lock on them like the Gen 6 ones to stop people being able to get into the boot through the car.

normal_seat%20gap.jpg

headroom wise you don't lose much at all.

will try and get some more pix of it fitted.

I HAVE PUT A SET OF GEN 7 SEATS IN A GEN 6 THE BACK ONES GO STRAIGHT IN BUT YOU BILL HAVE TO FABRICATE SOME NEW BRACKETS FOR THE FRONT ONES AS THE HOLES ARE IN DIFFERENT PLACES, IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING THEN THIS SHOULD TAKE ABOUT A DAY, I PAIN 290 QUID FOR THEM FROM A BREAKERS YARD TRY 24/7 BREAKERS
