My gt4 is an import... whats the bad points of using normal unleaded? (apart from performance loss)

does it really boost the performance that much using optimax?

Been loads of discussions in on this, my 3sfe 2.0L import runs fine on either. I do get a little more mpg on the optimax if I keep the foot up. I use whatever is the cheapest petrol station. It's been my local jet for the last three tankfulls and they don't do a higher octane version, so will use optimax at the weekend to fill up cause I get paid on Tuesday :D

adam you'll need to run a couple of tanks of optimax through, reset the ecu and keep it on optimax , you should see a noticeable bhp gain keeping it on optimax. uk spec is 239 ish on unleaded , jap spec is 250 bhp on optimax . 11 horses difference

Always use the Optimax/ultimate, cause only the best is good enough for "white beauty"! I never use anything else in the tank and after resetting the ECU I noticed a big gain in MPG with the optimax/ultimate so I am sticking with it for now, don't notice a great deal of performance differance though, but I probably wouldn't as she is a UK spec Celica.

if its UK spec the cars std map is to run on 95RON, Optimax will do nothing as its not set up to utilise the hike in Octane rating ;)

to be honest i think its a bit of a gimmick ;) been learning that as of late, just rigged up a methanol injection system and that DOES make heck of a difference

not two pumps coming from the same tank  (maybe)

by the end of 2 tanks used all thats left in the lines will be pure optimax , maybe 1 tank depending how much fuel you put in each visit.ss3 is defo super unleaded 100 ron fuel.

Guys - this has all been gone through before........certainly re: Gen 7's.

I only ever use Optimax now - not because it's a gimmick, but because there is a very noticeable difference in performance. Now it could be that the 190 can alter the timing to take account of 97ron and the 140 can't, but I would imagine the ECU setups are very similar.

I'm not the only one who has a 190 who can detect a real difference when using Optimax - Gordy swears by it too.

Running 95 instead of 97 makes it feel like the car is being strangled. It is far smoother, quicker response from the throttle and better mpg from Optimax.

Given the current price of petrol, I wouldn't pay an extra £5-10 a tank if it were just a gimmick.

I use 97 ron from sainsbury's, its risen to the dizzy heights of 95p (vs. 92p for 95ron). Still cheaper than 95 from some garages, and I do notice smoother runnning and better millage. Quite alot better milage on the long journeys, though I can't actually quantify that.

i can tell the difference in my 140. it feels like it has a bungy cord trying to pull it back a bit as it accelerate on 95.

Still cant decide to get a supercharger or Turbo
