New Yaris Review - Independent

just reading through the motoring section of the Independent newspaper and stumbled onto a review of the new Yaris on its way out...

Although he does have some nice things to say about the car, i was VERY unhappy with the line... "The old Yaris wasn't fun to drive and the warmed over T-Sport version was even worse" WHAT!?!?!?!?!

HOW RUDE!!!

If anybody wanted to get hold of it, it was in the Independent on the 18th October.

how can the best version of a car made, be the worst?

the t-sport is the flagship model of the yaris! the t-sport has the upgrades and improvements on it! it doesnt make sense

But does the most expensive model make it the best? Maybe the guy was expecting more than what he got - plus its only his opinion after all!

The best, is whatever you deem the word "best" to be.... could be best drive, best value, best economy, best extras....

"Best" can mean so many things differently to different people remember!

the quote above implies to me that he is looking for something sporty, nippy etc... which i think is the t-sport, but i spose ur right DA

i didnt say cos it was the most expensive it was best, just that it is the tweeked version of the yaris, supposedly improved tweeks

calm down jay...

perhaps as Em suggested, he was expecting a Clio 172 -type hot hatch (which the t-sport isnt) and while it is the range topper, there are faster and better handling hot hatches available...

everyone has different tastes, if we didnt, we'd all have the ford mondeo (or something) and eat pasta every night..

As fidgets said, if we all listened to these guys, we'd all be boring as funk.

You we're correcting me because you agreed with what I said! :P

I'm afraid it's actually his influence on me!

However, i have upset him a little. He waited over 30 years to buy a brand new car and now i've got a better one at 21!!! He is not best pleased!!!

The Indescribablyboring as Private Eye call it! I don't tend to trust the judgement of newspapers when it comes to cars - dunno why...

I've just read Richard Bremner's "First Drive" of the 1.3 T-Spirit in this week's Autocar. Very positive indeed and a score of 4 starts out of 5 - pretty good but Autocar standards.

On a related matter, both the Yaris and Aygo are shortlisted for European Car Of The Year...

Thing is... the current Yaris is on a 6-year old platform... every other car in it's class has had 2 or 3 upgrades in that time with some totally new models and the fact that the Yaris is still in the top 10 of car sales and cars in it's class is quite impressive.

Thing is, the Yaris was the first of it's kind to bring the short-but-tall, loads of storage, peppy engines etc into a small car that's dead easy to drive... and in the areas it was designed for (storage and space in a small car) it's still pretty much tops... every other car iv been in (Clio, 206, Fiesta) is bigger and whilst they may have bigger boots, inside they are hopelessly small and cramped with poor quality and equipment.

Ok, the Yaris is a bit dearer, but you get what you pay for... a well designed car with excellent reliability, good performance, fun to drive, easy around town, plenty of room, plenty of storage and compact size... isn't that what it was designed for? Isn't that what it's acheived and is still acheiving??

you ARE right there moffmo. there isnt anything sporty about the t sport, the handling is alright but in terms of power...... >sigh<

I really didnt check it over when i bought the yaris. i just really liked the shape of it and then when it came to the drive, sure its faster than quite a few things due to the weight.

round B roads its fast because of my teins and my tires (and some fancy footwork) ((whatever))

straights it struggles to get a DECENT respectable top speed. dies after a while.

NO independent rear suspension, which is really aggrovating me now cos even corsas have it!

dunno, dont know. I do however still think it is fun to drive. andd a great first car

currently saving pennies to get MR2 turbo, nearly half way there! YAY! :group-cuddles: <> and i still think this smiley is so very groovy :lol:

Ahh, but that's down to your driving and their driving style. ;)

Give a Yaris and a 350z to the Stig, and he'd show you which one corners better.

:D

i beg to difer tbh, i think the yaris is sporty, compared to the standard yaris, its defo got the meaner look.

In terms of power (if thats what it means to be sporty) its not the best, cant keep up to the typer's and the cooper s's, but then for a 1.5, the torque is defo up there with the best of them.
