D-4d Tuning Box

I figured that if the Yaris diesel motor was indeed the same as the BMW Mini D then the tuning boxes available on eBay for the Mini D must also work on my D-4D.

Good theory, so I asked many of these companies for their opinions/experiences and the result was pretty sketchy ... in the main the reply was "yes, in theory but nobody has done it"

So I plucked up courage and bought a box this week, I sent cleared funds on Monday and it arrived today (Wednesday) by Special Delivery ... impressive?

The kit consists of a box 2"x3"x1" with 2 wires. It fits into the common rail sensor wiring and takes 30 seconds to do.

Once fitted there is a small screw on the side of the box to adjust the amount of poke you require ... 12 turns are available, and I'm using 4 turns so far.

The power delivery is very similar to the standard (ie no kick in the back) only much more so, I'm finding myself using a gear higher and much fewer revs.

Power output is reportedly 95hp up from 74hp (more if you have a later D-4D) and an increase in torque of approx 35Nm.

To me these figures are irrelevant, the car feels much nicer to drive, and even my missus noticed the difference ...

Price £155 to include Special Delivery, if anyone wants more details I'd be happy to supply them via the PM system.

Or buy via ebay;

(To satisfy the cynical few ... I have no association with the vendor whatsoever, I'm just a satisfied customer)

What I should have included, sorry ...

The car's now a bl**dy bullet around country lanes :), the increased torque really makes itself felt.

I've not had chance to try it on the strip yet, but we're going to Somerset down the M5 tomorrow so I'll report back on Friday.

Wind it up all the way?

It'll kick out that much smoke I'll look like a downed Messerschmidt pilot!

I keep finding excuses to go out for a blast, by 'eck it's good fun :)

friend of mine dropped one of these on a Mitsi L200 Animal and wound it right up, coughed a bit of black but added 20mph onto the top end with extra power  (did 125 :P )

125 in an L200 sounds scary - I just don't trust the tyres more than anything else!

b1ackb1rd had already told me about this - the sod :crybaby:

I can see one coming to a Yaris near me in the not-too-distant future...

Cheers mate,

Alan

I'm gonna get the screwdriver on the tuning box tomorrow morning, this is addictive ... I want more torque!

With 4 turns (12 available) on the tuning box it does that diesel thing* whereby you back off the throttle but it goes quicker cos of the available torque ... love it :)

* I have to drive around car parks in 1st gear in my 1.9tdi, put it into 2nd and it charges off uncontrollably.

Took it on the M5 today to Birmingham-Super-Mare.

Bearing in mind I was constantly searching my mirrors for bear, I managed 96 miles in 75 mins door-2-door which included a traffic jam in Weston itself.

The car goes very well indeed on the strip, and can easily keep up decent averages which were quite tiring before the tuning box was fitted.

To paraphrase my missus "I'm like a dog with 2 dicks" :)

A claimed 95hp for the modded D-4D against 105hp for the T-Sport, 205Nm :o against a girly 145Nm

Not checked on mpg figures yet, but I'll bet a load of cash it's heaps better too :P

The bloke I bought my tuning box from actually sells boxes for cars/trucks with a common rail, it's only the connections that are car/model specific.

I've put a link in the eBay goddies section above, check out his other products or send me a PM for his phone number.
