2006 Copper Orange Mica Yaris Rs

My review of my 2006 Copper Orange Mica RS Yaris, Power Everything, Lowering Springs:

Can't believe this car is the replacement (and the same price) for the Echo Hatch...It feels like a mini-Lexus...

It is unbelievable, super quiet, the stock engine and exhaust sounds much better; sports car like....The gearing is different...

Handles flat, smooth, insane amount of bump absorption compared to my 04 hatch...I haven't pushed it hard since I am driving with a disablilty...

It is huge inside compared to the Echo Hatch, and the 60/40 rear seat is trick in the RS with recline and forward/back for the passengers or more boot space and they fold flat...

You sit lower, and the RS seats are deeper than the old RS...

Sub floor in the hatch ...

Fit and finish is like a Lexus, the doors are thick and close heavily...

Interior has nice soft rubberized parts, and the dash is almost black looking, I'm sure if one adds protectant it will look black...Fabric is nicer, as are the black velour floor mats...

Glove boxes have nice press handles so they feel more substantial...

AC Controls don't feel cheap like the old ones...

RS has all amber stack, stereo, and Speedo, the Optitron guages are wicked...stereo images much better with 2 in the front and 2 in the rear...

Steering is electric, and as so more direct and super light, which in my current condition is very helpful...And it assists more at low speed...The leather steering wheel is fatter and seems to have a tiny outer diameter...

The car seems to have more torque throughout the midrange...I don't know if the acceleration is as good, but seat of the pants it sounds and "feels" quicker, more linear and sporty...Less thrashy and more like a sports car, rather than hopped up economy car...

The shifter is stiffer and more precise feeling compared to the Echo Hatch...

Oh yeah, and the colour is stunning...

As I've said before, I think its a great looking wee car.

Its about time you guys got the decent 'spec levels we've been enjoying for years.

In black with a diesel motor - mmmmmm!

The colour really is gorgeous.... and so unique as well!

I still want one, but the T-Sport variant isnt coming out in January so I'll just have to be a good patient girl and wait!

Thank you for the review!!

It's great to have a write up from someone who owns the car and can compare it to previous phases especially as we're awating the launch here in the UK.

Cheers :)

Still waiting...

The car gained about 200 pounds, and using the TS engine. Official data as far as I could trace it, speaks of 0-60 in 10.9 seconds with manual transmission (probably not so short as the TS today's gear). Not that 0-60 is everything, but.

I'm also waiting to see what the TS brings. Some time ago, 1.8 engine (140 bhp)with 6 manual transmission was mentioned.

Thats a good positive writeup compared with one from Australia which was not so positive. Hmmm must get a drive of one B4 I buy.

Good on you echo rs

Just shown my Dad this thread and he likes it, aswell as the colour!!

Is there any chance you could get pics of the interior/boot? He really likes the current Yaris but the small boot size puts him off..we know the seat is moveable before anyone says anything!

Would be very grateful if you could

Thanks

Few inside shots:

The rear sits slide forward and back, increasing the boot space, or increasing rear passenger room...They also recline for the rear passengers...

The interior is just amazing on the RS (TS), very high quality feeling, more ergonomic, and dark grey (black looking) with lots of nice textures and finishes...

Some Toyota pics...The interior is much darker than these pictures suggest, the grey looking dash and seats are black in colour...My one complaint is why on the RS they couldn't have subbed a black stereo...

Love the interior - like a nice dark/ charcoal grey/ black interior. ;)

Dials look cool too. Scuff plates on the rear seats (on the back of them) are an excellant idea, as is the solid base which is also a lid.

Centre console looks good too - clean and neat.

love the interior. and there is a light in the boot!

like the rear headrests, nifty how when they are down they mould into the sea and arnt jutting up a bit.

i think they have put as much thought into this as the origional yaris

Guys, the likelyhood is that we will get a different stereo with the trip computer, much as we do now. There are pics in this week's Autocar.

We also get the digi-dash wather than the twin dials in the Canadian model (although I guess the T-Sport will have them - so much better integrated that the Mk1 ones). It also seems our interior has more aluminium-esque prigtwork down that central strip and along the tops of the doors.

Jay, a boot light is so mark 1 phase 2...
