2006 Copper Orange Mica Yaris Rs

yuk, yuk, yuk, and yuk.

Very dissapointing.

I'm sorry but it looks ugly. It looks like it ate too much chocolate and got a bit podgey. It doesn't look sporty at all, looks more like a bloated fish (and the colour doesn't help). The dash is probably a mild improvement, but where are all the chrome and CF touches too add the sport feel?

You say the it handles better, and the engine sounds less stressed. That is a good point, but light steering is not. I HATE light steering, no feel or feedback. Sports cars don't have light steering - but I guess this isn't a sports car.

Maybe I'm sounding a bit harsh here, but lets face it. It is an economical city car. The RS still isn't going to be good enough to compete with today's hothatch's. BUT I'm sure it is great for miss. bloggs to go shopping in :)

I guess it all depends on what they are competing against. For 3 years warrantied motoring I would happily buyone of these then I will be able to afford insurance on something fast, if I still want something fast.

Gotta agree that its god dam ugly! it doesnt have any exterior sporty features at all as far as im concerned. A p1 Tsport from the rear looks pretty darn sporty i reckon but this is just an ugly fattter version of a real yaris :P The description of it being a yari that ate all the pies couldnt be more accurate! As far as im concerned it isnt a yaris! they should have released it under a different name! Isnt this now in the same category as a corolla? If the Aygo took the yaris' place did this take the corolla's place? if thats the case they both arent as good as their predessessors (sp?)

Puh tis ugly!

Makes me go off New toyota's :(

I checked out the video on the site and it does look a bit better than in the photos........I especially like the new brake light of 4 LED's

I also wouldn't let my missus paint her toe-nails in my car  !

Not bad but I prefer the aygo now.......anybody know if you can beef the engine up in this :D ?

not a fan of the new yaris, too similar to an aygo. The compressed look makes it look more like a micra than a yaris.

Dont think i'll be changing anytime soon...................

Looks like the RS has rear drum brakes

That's put me off unless the UK version has discs

Here

What can I say... If this is the TS version that we'll see, then in spite the better quality of the interior materials, I wouldn't trade my p2 TS for that. A heavier car with the same engine and electric steering - count me out. And we don't yet know how's the suspension and the gear.

I believe this is not the final word on the TS version.

I would venture to guess that the UK will get 4 wheel discs on the TS version...Canada is a different market, and the models tend to get somewhat homogenized...I would also not be surprised to see that you get more premium options, like the auto climate control, special bumpers on the TS, larger wheels, navigation etc...

Toyota Canada is already doing the show circuit over here with a TTE supercharged version...

That said, I owned a modded 04 Echo Hatch RS (TS equivalent) before this, and this car blows it away in driving feel, handling, and quality materials...Even the stock engine/exhaust sounds better, and my old hatch had an intake and duals out the back...

Looks are subjective, but over here, most people who hated it in the pictures, after seeing it in person/or driving it have been converted...

Cheers

Would be nice to get it supercharged from the dealer. :hokus-pokus:

I find it quite difficult to believe that the new TS is better handling with electric steering and that it's a better drive with a formal 0-60 of 10.9 seconds (1.9 sec slower).

We consider any mod possible to get more from this engine. Adding 200 pounds probably didn't help. I agree re interior materials, but am still waiting to see what Toyota will come up with for the TS/RS that they haven't done till now with the MK2.

Toyota has revised the intake and exhaust on the 1NZFE, increasing the horsepower to 110....

The gearing has also been revised to provide more torque at lower RPM, and throughout the powerband...

The chassis is 40% stiffer and the suspension geometry has been changed to add better body control...

These changes are obvious when driving the new car after owning the previous model before...The previous generation, I had added the TRD front and rear braces, springs, and quick shifter, because the car felt like it was not solid enough, the new car feels solid in stock configuration...

Do you know how was the gearing revised so that it provides more torque at lower RPM?

Toyota's site in Canada still says 106 bhp...

Stiffening the chassis is a blessing.

Glad you're enjoying. Will surely take it for a ride when it arrives! I still hope that Toyota has some more surprises for the TS in the future :hokus-pokus:

Where did you see this figure of 10.9 seconds to 60?

I think its from the Canadian Echo specs.

Guys, these specifications cannot be taken as read for the UK. In the past the Canadian and US cars have been significantly different to those for Europe and the Far East. I'm sure its less of an issue now that the Yaris/Vitz is more "global" than the Yaris/Echo/Vitz and I feel that the Mk1 was never really intended to be exported to Canada in the way that it eventually was.

The engine's state of tune will be slightly different for Europe, if only in the engine management. The Stateside cars have to be able to deal with lower grade/octane fuels than are likely to be found in Europe and a road network that remains something like 20% unsurfaced (although admittedly these are minor roads).*

What I'm saying is, rather than just reading the numbers currently being banded about you have to wait until firm information is available for the European models.

*for more information on the differences I can recommend the late L J K Setrights excellent book "Drive On! - A Social History of the Motor Car". It covers lots of onther interesting (to me) aspects of motoring...

North American SAE regulations require the horsepower for 2006 to be measured differently, so the new Vitz/Yaris, while getting a boost from 108 to 110 hp, is listed on paper as 106 hp for North America...

Cheers

Indeed. Got a mate with a Canadian bike, and a mate with an American import bike. I'm not saying the cars will be the same (depends on the manufacturer I suppose), but as an example, the American bike had different wiring and different CDI to pass Californian regulations, and the Canadian bike for example, ran lower tyre pressures, because as Alan said, some of Canada's roads aren't always surfaced - I've been over to Vancouver a few times, and I've seen dirt tracks which are the equivilent of our A-roads in places!

That's a d..n good question. I couldn't remember, but apparently it was here: http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdrives/06yaris.htm

Reading it again, I'm not sure if he meant the regular which uses the same engine or the RS, though he did mention that it's slower than the Echo. My apologies...
