1995 Corolla Timing Belt

I have a 1995 Corolla with about 80,000 miles on it. My mechanic wants to replace the timing belt, which will cost about $1450, which is pretty close to what the car might be worth. The car runs fine and has been well-maintained - not that much hard driving. What risk do I incur if I don't get the timing belt replaced? Thanks to all in advance for your time and kindness.

Way, way too much! Ours was changed by Toyota dealer last year and cost about a tenth of that price. You sure they didn't make a mistake with the decimal point?

You could probably ship it to England, have the belt changed, and ship it back for less than that! :D

Thats way over the top - should be 2.5 hours max to change it plus the price of the belt (if its a diesel engine then 3 hours labour).

I could fly out there and change it cheaper than they are quoting to do the Job.

hi,

if you have any confidence then give it a go yourself. i did, it's not rocket science and it only ended up costing around £20 for the belt and no labour. give it ago..

p.s it was the 4afe.
