Shud I Bother With A Avensis

i used to taxi a preg carina 1.8cd and it was a very nice, very reliable car. i used it for as year and it had 43.000 when i got it and 80.000 when id finnished.

i now drive a pug306 dturbo and want a change and fancy a avensis but from what i`v heard and read on here i dont think i`l bother.

i`l only be spending 3-4 g`s on a car so can you tell me wich is the best model avensis to get....... if my carina 1.8 was anything to go by then they`r bullet proof

cos i hardly had any garage costs and you know what taxi drivers are like lol.

i want another 1.8 for fuel economy but i dont know wich one to get cos the vvti burns oil and blows up but i dont know about the rest.

is there a avensis that uses the same engine as the old carina, or is ther one similar to it cos the carina was a gud car..

i`l look forward to your reply`s

many thanks

al.

The pre-facelift original Avensis uses CarinaE engines and are a better bet for longetivity and smoothness over the VVTi units.

Personally, i'd try to find a 2.2 Camry, easily available within your budget, more spec and there made in Japan so they don't rattle as much.

Yeah, as James said really.

The pre-facelift models still shared the same engines as the CarinaE. So you could get a 1.8 with the same bulletproof and economical engine as you had in your Carina. Don't forget, the only real issue is that the Avensis is slightly heavier so therefore a little slower. But the 2 litre 3S-FE is just as good and I hear they take well to a gas conversion too!

They are definately well worth the look, I had the 1,8 and it was a brilliant motor which averaged between 38 to 43 mpg! The diesel version couldn't do much more than that!

mine's a 98 S-reg and that's a non-VVTi (it's currently in the garage as somebody rear-ended me the other night :( ). I think the VVTi's came out shortly afterwards (mid-99 onwards).

My only issue is that I'd go for a 2ltr if I was looking now. I feel the 1.8 is just a bit lacking and takes a bit of revving to get it going. Just look out for rattles, I'm sure the hatchback and estate owners on here can point out the places where the rattles usually occur.

WHATS THE ECONOMY LIE ON THE 2 LITRLE COS I`M FANCY AN AUTO AND I WUD OF THORT THAT THE 2 LTR WUD BE TO COSTLY TO RUN AS I DO QUITE A LOT OF SHORT JOURNEYS..

Me and probably a few other people would apreciate it if you didn't take that kind of attitude, especially toward someone who wasn't being in any way awkward. If you've been offended please state so in a proper manner.

We all try to get along in these forums, and those that have upset have been in the minority. They've also been kicked off the forums in the end.

Treat others how they wish to be treated, not how you think they should be.

Hi . I used a Carina E as a taxi for three years ,For the job the best car i ever had, Was a 1600 and ave 37mpg around town,

Time came to change and because the Carina was so good i went for an Avensis,Because the council,s rules say only cars under five years old can be used as taxi s it had to be a vvti (1800) .Mpg s well it wont do better than 33 around town and thats worked out useing Maths and not the onboard comp,

Want a tip, go Diesel, Why did'nt i ? You live and learn, Jim.

yes i was offended as dislexia isnt the best thing to have and if you had it too you`d be offended by someone comenting about your spelling...

its not my fault i`m dislexic and i`m very sencitive about the subject the same as disabled ppl are about themselves..

nest time try and find out why the persons tyoing isnt exellent as some ppl are very embarrsed about it.

Isn't this getting a little out of hand....

Al's a new member after some serious advice regarding his livelyhood, matt's trying to give some good advice, it wasn't a dig...

Does it really have to escalte...

Al, ispell was an idea which you may have found helpful, no insults were intended,

Dyslexia is a common problem and nothing to be embarrsed about, although if people try to offer friendly advice it's not somehting to jump on...

Anyway back to the question in hand.... Al welcome to the club and hope tyou find the info you require.

just my 2p.

I'm sorry mate, but I think you need to get off your high horse and get on with your life. My father in law and a mate are dyslexic and they learn to deal with it and not let it get to them.

From a readers point, it can be very hard to read through alot of posts, especially when it is difficult to understand what is being said, so using something to help you in posting would be advantageous to us, but more to you, because you get the help you want.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, where you will find a wealth of information and help. :group-cuddles:

As I said before, there's no need to get this offended.

I'm very sorry you feel this way, and this is not how this site is intended to be used.

Please change your mind, and give everyone a second chance. We do like to help, me especially because I enjoy speaking to like minded people.

There is a report this post button if you have trouble in future. But i'm afraid that with your last post, i've been compelled to push that button myself.

This could have all turned out a lot different...
