High Idle Speed

A quick one, when starting the engine from cold it idles at about 2,000 rpm. However after 5 or 10 mins of driving it goes down to 1,000 rpm in neutral. Is this normal??

Had the car serviced last week, and the mechanic said it should be fine. I didn't want to adjust the idle speed when cold, as it may stall when the engine has warmed up as the revs will then be too low??!

Any ideas, and/or is this behaviour normal when the engine is cold?

Model is '87 GT-i16 T-Vis

THANKS :bye:

Perfectly normal

The Corolla GTi/ GT has always ideled high when cold (about 2000r.p.m).

It does no harm at all and your mechanic friend is right.

Mine does it (a 89 GTI T-vis) ...and has done for over 12 years of ownership and has had no detrimental effect.

If you do start playing around with the ideling you will cause other probs so leave it all alone.
