Rear Window Heat Wires

Hi

Is it normal for all the wires on the back window NOT to work ?

It seems that the first 3 from the top, and the last 2 from the bottom don't seem to have any effect whatsoever on the window.

I bought the car from a (Toyota) dealer (used), just under 6 months ago.

Will the warranty cover this particular problem, or will they say that since 'most' of the wires are working, there's no need for us to do anything ?

Thanks in advance :)

Chances are the wires have been damaged/broken by the previous owner. Normally by wiping the window with a hand with a ring on the finger or by having stuff in the boot which has rubbed on the glass during transport.

New window or you can buy stuff to rejoin the elements.

Funnyily enough, I've noticed one I've mine isn't working this morning, so I'll be mentioning that to Toyota (It's going in for warranty work on Sat 5th Nov).

Think Ryan said one of his wasn't working either.

it could also be that trhe previous owner had soem window tints and/or stickers attached to the rear windshield and the de-misting wires were damaged when these were removed.

I'll join the club to ...... as meantioned in the other thread :P !

Mines the 3rd line from the bottom which is pritty much slap bang in the middle. I guess we only find out about these problems when we need to use it.

Before I take it to Mr T for it to be fixed under warranty I might try a bit of solder and see if that sorts it as it's only a metal track

However somebody has told me that you can get tiny metal circle stickers that you just stick on over the broken metal track to complete the track and make it work......any ideas folks?

You can buy the kit at Halfrauds Dave.

I'll get it sorted under warranty though... :D

Best of luck if you try to get it sorted under warranty....................It may be classed as accidental damage and not covered.

Try electro conductive paint from Radio Spares...........not cheap though

Well, I rang them, and they're going to "test it" when it goes in to have the 3rd brake light sorted a week on Saturday.

Just a theory. Ryan and Dave, when you got your cars, were there Toyota stickers in the rear window (if you got it from a dealership)?

There was one in the Blue when I picked her up, removed it (gently!) and the wires are fine and all in working order ;)

I think my rear heater thingies are fine, I never said anything about them in another thread!

Anyway, I did have an Arnold Clark sticker but just whooped it off and its all good I think, I'll be sure to test them soon!

Oh right - thought it was you Ryan? :D

Mine was just a theory, but my sticker was at the bottom of my rear windscreen, and the problem wire is near the top.
