Well I don't own an MR2... Yet! :D

I'm from New Zealand & I'm saving up for a 90-92 model, maybe turbo, depending on insurance prices, (I'm an 18 yo male... which sucks as far as insurance for performance cars goes).

I have a vision: A MkII with a Porsche style body kit, smooth, elegant & curvey, with nice 16" porsche style alloy rims & the sweetest exhaust note to hit the streets in a long time.

Problem: Despite hundreds of searches, I haven't found anyone in the world that has done such a thing, nor any body kits that would suit my image.

Question: Has anyone here done it, Seen it done, Or even know of a company that makes a modern Porsche style body kit for the MR2 MkII?

All help, comments & sugestions welcome & appretiated.

Why do you want it to look like a Porsche?

Posted

'cos it would be individual and exclusive

however the question is begging to be asked, what's wrong with the mr2 looks as it is? :o

I think the mk2 is one of the best looking (definitely expensive looking to the untrained eye anyway) value for money cars u can buy to be quite honest and if insurance wasn't going to set me back 1500+ quid I would certainly get one at the drop of a hat!

nevermind, i'll be 19 in september, that should bring the insurance down by around 5 quid.

the mk2 mr2 is already smooth, elegant and curvy!

do like u said - buy the turbo - then spend the 5 grand (im not sure what currency u have in New Zealand) tweaking the engine and other important performance aspects of the car - thus making it ***** all over porsches anyway and have porsche owners wanting mr2 bodykits for their cars!

p.s. is it true there are more sheep than people in New Zealand? :P

Well I guess thats a fair question, the MR2 is definately a lovely, classy looking car. When I get it, I think it probably will be a turbo, I'd love to burn off a Porshe on the highway. My plan is to do all the engine/performance upgrades before the body anyway, but I've just always loved the porsche shaped nose, how it continues to curve under the car, I wouldn't mind some nicely curved side skirts either, the back is quite ok however.

I dunno why I really want to do it, I guess cause I haven't seen it done before, & imo it would look simply beautiful, not that the car doesn't already. I really want a T-Bar too, they rock.

T-Bars all the way!!!!

I understand how you want your future car to look original but I have issues with people that try and make cars from Japan look like cars from the other side of the globe.

Over here in the UK it seems to be the rage to make French cars (Saxo, Pug) look Jappy with silly big bodykits.. and you wonder what they were thinking.

You want to look at aggresive jappy bodykits like Bomex and Veilside.. look at rhaines car, looks better than a pretend Ferrari or Porshe.

The MR2 is a jappy based beast and should stay that way.. it doesnt need to pretend to look like anything else.

Just my thoughts  :P

I get that all the time.. at work some guy thought I was a drug dealer and another thought my Mk2 cost me £10,000.. oh and the ladies love it too.

Its nice to think that when my car was new it cost £27,000.

I have always loved the Mk2 and I was shocked the first time I saw one in autotrader.. I realised that I could afford it!

Its just the running costs lol... mine drinks fuel like a go-go juice drinking monster.

JappyB thank you for the comments, always appreciated, oops must stop head getting bigger....

NZ, I've seen a large number of different bodykits for the 2 and have never seena Porsche one and to be honest don't hink it would suit the style of the car but then again that is my own opinion, everyone knows about the Ferrari ones but I'm not about to start another thread on that one (there's a ferrai post somewhere, you'll see what I mean....

The MR2 is a superb car, performance, handling etc and it is very mod'able to get the extra performance you want and has a huge number of bodykits available to make yours unique and stand out further from the crowd....

JappyB was on about my one which looks like....

Best advise I could give is if you want to be unique stick with the kits that are out there and mix and match them to get the effect you really want :)

Now that is a beautiful kit. Is it custom or straight off the shelf? I'm kind of looking for something quite similar to that, but minus the nose scoop and a bit more curved under at the nose. However that is an extremely good looking car. :D

All off the shelf :D

Autopista Skirts and rear spoiler.....

You wouldn't know of any good sites for images of available off the shelf kits and their prices would you? Man, I just can't wait to get my hands on the steering wheel of my future MR2... So, so beautiful.

This one was just a beast that had to be posted. I don't think I wouldn't personally choose this style, but I've got respect for this beast.

I wish to take back any comments made about a Porsche style MR2. You people have helped me see the light as far as a keeping a Jappy Beast looking like a jappy beast. Also I just managed to get an apprentiship with NZ's larest importing/dealing/servicing company for most of the euro brands: Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche etc... I've been hired as an apprentice mechanic in the Audi service deparment, I'm so excited, I start tomorrow morning (Monday). Its probably my dream job, and I've got it! Well anyway, I don't really think I wanna be turning up to work in a jappy beast made to look like a Porsche, I think the company wouldn't like it much. Anyway I've fallen in love with the Border Bodykit, its the white car, the first image I posted. Heres another look at the border kit on a different car. Thanks for keeping me from making a big mistake :D
