Never driven an automatic before today and it was an awful experience!

Granted the car i drove was a cr@ppy Corsa but it's really put me off getting an automatic!!!

Really just looking for some reassurance as 90% of Supras for sale seem to be automatic!!!

Cheers,

Mike

Don't worry mate!!!! The gearboxes area totally different class!!! The amout of people that say "Nice car, shame its an auto" drive me mad.. I ask them if they have ever driven an auto, most say no, others say "yes I drove an auto clio/vectra/astra/etc"... really its very very different!!!

I used to be a manual only fan, after driving manuals and auto mercs, rollers, bmws etc.... Only when I drove a soarer TT did I realise how good autos can be!!! The supra/soarer boxes are simply awesome!! Bear in mind to "pull off" an auto you need an engine with a decent wide power band... the supra has this!!!

Give it a go with an open mind and I'm sure you'll not e disapointed... I'm also sure many supra auto drivers will back me up!!!

can you have the same fun?!!

I'm sure many Toc Members that have been about me in my car a fair bit will aggree...

You can drive like a total ubik if you like... You can drift an auto too! In reality they are no slower then a manual (unless you can guatrantee a totally perfect shift and perfectly matched revs every time), they may feel slightly slower as the acceleration isa lot more "linier" throughout the gears and the engien note does not change as dramaticly, but accelerate side by side with an identical car in manual and they are usually suprisingly neck and neck! (in supra world anyway!)

You will also find as an auto does not dump the clutch that after time the big ends and mains will be in bettter form, and there is no clutch to die!!

I live right out in the sticks.. the roads totally flood and have about 2" of sloppy mud (not really water) its gets everywhere!!!! I am not as neurottic as I will be when its colder asn its thick sloppy SALTY gritted mud!!!

Go to any country where they don;t use salt on the raod.. hardly any rusty cars!!

The mud died solid.. plays havoc with my coil overs when I want to adjust them next!!!!

Auto supras are cool  I've owned both an auto and a manual mk4 and can honestly say they are both as good as each other

The auto makes the car so much easier to drive and cruise - plus its sooo smooth, but the manual offers complete control and is more agressive although a bit rough.

Im sure you would be happy with either

I hate my auto. It run like !Removed! when it's cold and seems to lack power. I had always assumed it was just 'like that', but over time I've started to realise that there must be something wrong it it.

Overall I prefer manuals though. I actually bought a manual to replace my auto with, and will be putting it on the road on Tuesday. Auto's take away all the fun for me, I like having things to do.

I must confess... my auto box is going to be swapped fora six speed manual when the new engine goes in...... but thats more "because I can" and its not been done in europe yet as far as I know!

  • 2 weeks later...

i have a supra auto, and my neighbour has a manual both the same n/a, jap imports and you wouldnt know the difference mate.

i was also a manual only guy, but the power on tap is great, and you get a real good whack up the ar*e when you hit your foot to the floor.

its just so easy to, put your foot down hard = Loadsa power.!

its great fun, and boy do they drive well, you'd do alot worse than to get one.

babyface

I got scared in mine the other night.... Floored it at 80.... the resultant kickdown got the rear wheels slpinning!!!!!

It was very cold at 3 am and the motorway was "mildly damp" not wet, but not bone dry...

It woke me up to say the least!!!

I then lifted off to mush axhasut poping and banging, slowly applied the power and promptly hit fuel cut

D'oh!
