Regarding The Fitting Of My Bonnet

Hi there, just wondering if you lot had any problems with fitting your carbon bonnets?

Because upon fitting mine, I've found out that the bonnet catch won't reach fully, will only clip into the first click. Also the bonnet doesn't sit straight. I've adjusted all necessary bolts etc, to check that, nothing I can see stopping it, tried the catch the other way round etc, still no joy, somewhat annoying :(. Also my original grille doesn't fit in correctly, cannot do up the nuts, even after my "adjustment" to the holes, and also my washer jet doesn't fit properly!

I got this far before I gave up dsc005109at.jpg

With ANY aftermarket bonnet... bonnet pins are very highly recommended, some bonnets don't quite fit 100% to the catches and can blow over the windscreen. get some asap.. your going to need them anyway. If you can get it sitting properly wthout the catch.. take the catch off and get a good set of pins put in.

Mate - you've made me want the rear C-ONE add-ons again!

Ok - looks like the C-ONE bonnet? From what Ive heard its even lighter than my varis one.

When I was fitting mine it just would not engage the lower click on the bonnet catch. I spent literally an hour pressing it home with no success. In my case the issue was the rubber stoppers that I transfered from the oem bonnet - these are the rubber stoppers that you wind into the under front edge of the bonnet. I ended up trimming them by about half with a stanley knife.

This allowed the bonnet to engage the lower click - but only after I'd lubed it with grease and messed about with it for another 20 mins!

The washer jet is just a different shape- full stop. So - go to Halfords or similar and find an oblong washer jet - needs to be oblong to fit properly into the slot. I replaced the water line too and wire tied it to the underside of the bonnet frame.

This was fine for about ... oh a month - then I noticed that the bonnet was occaisonally popping onto the second click on the catch. Then one day - half way down the the M5 it blew open. Ill spare you the details - suffice to say my underwear drawer now has more room.

Bonnet catches are an **** to fit - but will protect you (and your underwear) in the long term.

Hope this helps

Clarky that is exactly my problem.

I will have a fettle tomorrow, I can no longer see the car so can't do anymore tonight.

It was a very tight fit with the rear add-ons with my backbox, VERY tight indeed. will get some pics of all of it in proper light tomorrow, hopefully when the bonnets done and I've given it a clean

Most bonnet pins look the same to me - got mine from Envy (yes I know its a shock!) - they're brushed alloy and look nice against the carbon. They do seem to make people look at the car more though!

Finding a sensible mounting point is the hard part - I already had bonnet risersso they needed to sit more centrally - have a look at my garage for pics.

defo use loock pins, as per muffin and clarkys comments

also carbo bonnets never fit perfect as they are a hand made item so you loose that 'mass production' repeatability
