The Man From Toyota, He Say No!

I have a 1.8 VvTi Avensis GS (mileage 57K) that has the dreaded oil consumption. My car has been with the dealer I purchased from (independant) for the last week. It has been stripped to take bore measurements etc. He phoned up today (02/11/05) to say that Toyota are refusing any claim under warranty because the 10k service was not done, it actually got done at 18k instead.

My Dealer is still going to fight the case for Toyota to do the work but, at the moment I am not too hopeful. I am aware that Toyota will try to escape this any way possible as it must be costing them a small fortune, but was just interested to hear if anybody else has had this problem with getting work done.

Guess you decided to save money by not using a propper Toyota dealer and you have learnt from it. Toyota have been good to me in the past and I will always use a Toyota Dealer. May have been a different answer with a full propper history. my 70k service was less than £90.00 I think it is good value for money with genuine parts and a trained mechanic, cant beat it!

I have only had the car for about 5 months, not from new (sorry, should have mentioned that). It does have a full Toyota service record.

I had no problem getting a new short engine with full Toyota Service History AND a very good local Toyota dealer

If you only had it 5 months from an idependant surly the car had a warranty? Avoid the independants maybe they buy the crap the propper dealers dont want!

So was the service done on time then? Or for that matter any of them? If it wasn't, then that will invalidate the guarantee anyway. They normally stipulate that servicing is done on time to the schedule.

the law has changed any fault within 6 months is treated as being present from the date you obtained the car the garage has to prove fault not present which they cannot prove also ask what other warranty work has been carried out on your car ie this proves they have done warranty work even with the 18 k service was the car a rental car

so many had a service but no stamp or info passed to toyota

go to the small claims court for £3.5 k new engine

good luck

I agreee with sjrainsford on this matter. I was told that if the service was not done on time the warranty would not be valid. I think you can have your car serviced by any reputable garage providing genuine Toyota parts are used. It does not have to be a Toyota garage but your book has to be stamped.

RESULT! picked my car up from the dealer yesterday (14/11/05), short engine replaced. Took a little longer than I expected but was worth the wait.

From :Toyota club Danmark

According to a Toyota mechanic who works at Toyota Sagelse in Danmark these cars suffer high oil consumtion because of engine block problem (alloy is not strong enough) . Avensis Face lift models 01-02 and also The new engines vvt-i still suffer the same problem acording to him.For more info you may contact him. In one case Toyota changed 3th. times short engine 4th time he got brand new one.

Sorry for the poor English

Your car was outside the 50,000 extended warranty that Toyota have given for this problem with oil consumption. How did you manage to get it sorted?

I took the car back to the dealer (non Toyota) I got it from within their own warranty period. They sorted it all with Toyota. From previous posts on the site I believe Toyota have extended the warranty period to 6 years instead of five, not sure about mileage limits. Dealer was great I have to say, argued the points with Toyota who eventually coughed up and I got a new short engine.
