Alarm

Hi All ..just need some advise i have a 98 1.8 avensis gs..have had lots of probs with the alarm..have had a new alarm box fitted over 100.00 ..and still having the prob kept returning to the car and cant use the remote, Toyota re synced the keys saying that would now be ok..still have the same prob..so Toyota said only thing i could do was buy 2 new keys as they where loosing the memory..after i got of the floor when they told me the price ...over 300.00 for 2 keys..had a word witha mechanic and he said the alternative was to scrap the avensis alarm and fit a aftermarket one ......do you folks think this is a good idea ?? and has anyone done it..also what catagory of alarm is fitted to theis model as standard ...any help would be gratefully recived Paul...

Can you disable the alarm and keep the immobiliser working?

the immobiliser is the bit that would bugger you up, as it is tied in with the engine control unit.

Types of alarm fitted: (from a post earlier this year)

or in real words:

The key is - Transponder, Contact Key, Remote

It isolates 2 circuits

It has the following internal detection methods - Ultrasonic/Microwave.
