New Focus St Vs New Cts Compressor

Just driven 45 miles in a compressor corolla , cant believe the people having a dig about it ( high price apart ) . Fabulous linear power from 1800 rpm right through to 8200 . Massive improvement over the standard t sport . Handling is much better too . the bmw 320 quote on handling is way off the mark . Please drive cars before making judgments . I have driven many great handling cars , integra type r . focus rs , 330 ci , R32 golf, Celica tsport ( i have one and it would not stand a chance on a country lane or in a straight line ) and it compares favourably  . It should be £17995  agreed but as a drivers car it is fabulous .  Would have been even better with  2000  miles on the engine to free it up( my celica drove much better once freed up with miles ).

I'm not going to write a long list of all the cars I have or havent driven, just because a car is fast does not mean it is good.

I cant think of two more fat, bloated and gadget ridden pseudo sports cars than the 330ci and Golf. Certainly not my cup of tea anyway, and you are just showing your age and naivety by making such a predictable list of so called good handling cars. I would much rather have an Escort Mexico.

I always wanted a Datsun 240Z, I still do actually, that was a car with soul. :D

i wouldnt buy anything non japanese but nowadays its dodgy, you have to work hard to find out where the jap car your buying actually comes from. i still think that toyotas with th "made in japan" sticker are the best motors on the road perhaps a bit dull recently.

drove a cts compressor last week, not a very involving drive, fast enogh though, but not very special. and the dealer couldnt tell me **** about it.

the tsport is pretty flakey there has been a raft of gearbox, clutch, rattley trim and oil burning issues. Which is disappointing really. But i'm no tsport hater, i do love mine, sunny day filled with with optimax, its all good fun. But a 320td Compact with the sport suspension pack, no niggles, + rear wheel drive fun... Is just as good imho, having driven both!!!

but my bro's twin turbo supra is by far the best...

You should not blame the non-Japanese workers for the cars' problems, but the Japanese supervised engineering and manufacturing of cars for European customers.

I guess a managerial decision has been made that more profits will be brought to Toyota by reducing production costs than satisfying all customers.

The Toyota cars of the past are more bulletproof than the current models, but what other cars dont suffer the same problems? I've been on the Honda, Mazda & Nissan forums and if you read what problems they have you would not complain. VW's are rock solid but not very reliable and pretty boring to drive, i do like driving beemers but they tend to come down with problems with the electronics! :P

The list of cars i quoted were cars i have driven which are all good handling cars ( Stephens quote about cars not being good just because they are fast seems to be directed at me but i have no idea why since i mentioned smooth power and handling and agree totally with his comment  )

I think he may have me down as 19 old . I am 37 years old and from the age of 18 to 34 sold new cars at various dealerships in south wales . After moving out of the motor trade i bought the cars that i had found the most reliable ( vw and toyota)

My point was and is " The new cts is a very fine handling car with the engine it always deserved . My celica whilst great fun and fast (above 6200 rpm) always needs hammering to keep in the power band . the cts i drove went into bends and rounabouts etc in third gear at 3-4000 rpm and pulled me strongly out of them .If i tried following one in my celica i would be been frantically downchanging to second to keep up .The cts's smooth fast progressiverefined speed is what impressed me most . i would love that engine in my car

I did not mean to flame any arguments or get anyones back up. :)

240z great ! Uno turbo ie loved it at the time!!

a car of this power suffers with a lot of tramping at the front wheels. (spinning up and bouncing). and maye some torque steer. good thought of the new turbo on it.

No problem . My mate just took the plunge and ordred a cts comp . He got a staff discount deal on it( his best mate is the service manager at the dealer ) . Rang a few dealers first and no-one would discount it . only 250 made so residual should not be too bad .

Hope he enjoys it . :)

I' ve just read this thread with interest as I currently have a Celica T Sport which I'm going to replace with a Focus ST2. The Celica has been a great fun car bar the attention it has brought me from the police (I blame my right foot) and the raft of problems it's had.

The air conditioning failed, bolts kept coming out the bottom of the passenger front seat until the section you sit on came clean off, the gear box had twice had to be fixed and most incredible of all the engine failed (on the motorway :help: ...thankfully in slow traffic). The short motor and all of the bottom end of the engine was replaced.

I think the one thing that kills any credability for the Corolla is that 2 pipe look-a-like exhaust. I was crying out for Toyota to offer some worthy competition to the opposition but judging by reviews it hasn't managed it.

It is a new company car I'm getting and even by constantly pestering my fleet company and the toyota garage they deal with, they weren't able to get

me a test drive of the Corolla Compressor. Maybe at some point next year I was told. Other dealers I visited didn't have a clue when the car was arriving. They don't want my money so I'll go else where.

A better marketed, higher volume production car with more effort could have sold bucket loads if Toyota had worked on the handling in comparison to the opposition.

Hands up, I've driven neither but went to see the Focus at a garage yesterday. I hate the current Focus shape and had been badly dissappointed by the interior and exterior of a hire car I had, but the new ST is a completely different kettle of fish. The dark interior (and black roof lining) is fantastic and the exterior speaks understated agression (bar the orange paint).

I can't wait for a test drive
