Definitely flashes when its getting low.

Thats where the fun begins, as the gas in the 5th gen is illegal now. You might be lucky and find someone that will fill it up with the old gas, otherwise you have a couple of options.

1. Replacement gas which is supposedly ok, but might knacker the system after a couple of years.

2. Replacement a/c system internals, which is gonna cost a few hundred, plus the newer gas.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on

Shop around for someone who can recharge the system using iceon 49. Its a direct replacement for the now illegal R12 gas. The only disadvantage is that its not quite as efficient as R12 so it doesn't get quite as cold.

True, the latest compatible stuff ( Iceon 49 ) isn't yet proven over the long run. Regassing with R143 will identify whether it's a regas or something more, but the particle size is smaller with 143 and it'll leak.

Replacement a/c system internals, which is gonna cost a few hundred, plus the newer gas.

Only if you're getting ripped off !

There's a guy with a 1991 Sera who got his system converted to R143.........basically all the seals got replaced, and the whole system flushed and regassed..............£75.00. You'd pay that for a regas at some places !

Somewhere in Newcastle I think.

ash, does the light flash all the time or does it stay lit for a couple of seconds when you switch it on and then start to flash? if it only stays lit for a ouple of seconds before flashing then its possible its the mag clutch on the pump. plenty of these around at the breakers.

keep us informed (mind you winters here and aircon is only useful for demisting your wndows this time of year)

I turn it on its stays green and then starts to flash, and the whole purpose for my air can at this time of year is to de-mist  Thanks for the info guys.

i believe MRt can plug in a diagnosics to the AC controler and tell you why its not working. if your sure it has gas in then this may be a good route to go

TO replace aircon internals all you need to do is replace O-rings to green ones not the black ones and replace the reciever drier thats all you will need to do to get in converted trust me I'm an A/C specialist shouldn't cost to much for the seals and is easy enough to do a home job I did it on my 91 mazda took me an hour just replace the seals into the reciever drier and the pump everything else should sort its self out then get it refilled with R134a the replacement for the CFC Refridgerant

do the revs alter on the rev counter when you engage air con.i'm thinking compressor isnt kicking in , if as you say the gas is ok ?

can you feel it blowing colder asha when you first put it on.before the light flashes , if so the compressor is working ok and its more likely the gas is low.changing to the new gas is only a few rubber o rings to seal things and a refill should be no more than £150 at the most if that even.sorry if this has been said already
