Hi All,

Took my car into Mr t's on Saturday with Squeaking Belt, Very loud. Came out silent, but is now worse than ever. Could this be the adjuster as my celica is a 2001 190 model and only done 14000 miles. This is really getting on my nerves now feel a right pratt driving along, sounds as though i am driving a fiesta.....

Going to take it back tomorrow but now looking at another big bill if it is the adjuster.

Any suggestions, apart from WD40 as this only works for a few mins....

Is the belt actually slipping, or is it a bearing squealing?

Either way, it is likely to be the tensioner pulley bearing. Normally they only need lubrication. Where did you spray the WD40? You need to get it right into the bearing of the idler pulley. That's all Mr T does, and it seems to cure it.

Went back to Mr T and they told me not to drive it, give me a courtsey car until 17/11/05 when the tensioner arrives. They say it is dangerous to drive IE power steering pump could burn out. Found out that my extra insurance covers this so am a bit happier.....

Hi

I have a Corolla TS (2zzge engine) that makes a mechanical noise when trying to accelerate with 1st or 2nd gear as long the engine is below 1000-1050rpm. It is a sqealing sound at 800-900rpm and becomes a bass-rich rattle near 1000rpm. Practically I hear this every time I start moving the car or moving slowly at crossings, especially with increased load or tyre friction e.g. turning or going uphill. It initially appeared during the summer and is favoured by hot engine. I recognize it as similar to usual sounds made by old cars at crossings or when they start moving.

Due to the correlation with rpm and load I considered this as engine missfiring. Could it be a problem of belt and tensioner?

Sounds like how mine started, squealing at about 800-1500 revs.

Then it started to get worse after doing a few motorway miles. If i was you i would get your dealer to have a look at the tensioner.
