Another Problem With Central Locking

I have a 1998 2.0 CDX Avensis, and I have a problem with the Central Locking.

I think the problem was caused by somebody trying to break into the car, and the Central locking using the fob stopped working. I took it to the dealer and they said it need a new unit in the drivers door. I can lock the doors from the inside, unlock the drivers door, and lock it using the key.

Recently the locking mechanism starts opening and closing the doors even when the ignition is off.

I have browesed the forum, and this appears to be common problem.

Any ideas on how I can fix it?

The locking mechanism could start playing up if your door lock is dodgy. There are contacts inside that tell the system that it is either in the lock or unlocked positions. These can stick and tell the sytem it is in both positions. Hence, it not knowing where it is.

I'm not so sure the dealer would lie outright to you anyway.

Read what happened with maidstonemike in one of the other posts. You don't wanna go down that route.

My advice would be to take it to an auto electrician rather than a mechanic if you aren't that way inclined yourself. Or if you can obtain a good electrical drawing, I could maybe help you out.
