Intermittent Transmission Noise

Hi guys.

I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the intermittent fast 'clicking' noise I get from the front offside of my Yaris D4D (85k miles). When its there, it disappears if I depress the clutch, so it isn't anything about the engine as I can rev it freely with no noise. Similarly the noise is the same pitch whichever gear I'm in, so I don't think it is anything in the gearbox. Its not the usual CV click on lock and its not a bearing whine. Its the same whether I'm driving straight or round a bend. Its most noticable when the car is under gentle acceleration, and largely disappears when I take my foot off. My local garage thought it might be the driveshaft but couldn't see a visible problem with it. They changed the pads as one of them was seized but that made no difference. Recent new tires made no difference (and were due anyway). I read in another thread that CV joints can dry out and can be regreased. There are no cuts or holes in the boot but the car was under 18 inches of flood water for a couple of days before I bought it (at 3k miles two years ago).

I drive 120 miles + each day and the noise is there for about 25% of the time.

Thoughts appreciated.

Cheers

Jim

I know some Yaris's have driveshafts done under warranty, so I would assume that may be your problem. Although they do say that "assumption is the mother of all %$( ups"

My driving instructor's d4d seems to do the opposite to yours, her's makes a clicking noise if you accelerate it too hard
