D4d Water Pump Failure + Cykinder Head

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had this problem

I have recently had a water pump failure (at 55,000 miles) on my Rav 4 D4D 2001, which caused the cam belt to strip its teeth, and the consequences of this caused the camshafts in the cylinder head to snap, and the valves to hit the pistons.

Is this a common problem on the D4D engine or am I just unlucky.

I would say you've been unlucky there!

It's amazing how one little thing can cause so much damage. I take it it's not under warranty?

Unfortunately as we now live in Cyprus, it is a bit far to take it back to where I bought it in Croydon!!!. However I had to order the spares from the UK, which cost me a fortune as there are not many of D4D's over here, as petrol is only about two thirds of the price in the UK.

Plus most of them are Japanese imports which are a different specification, as I work for a dealer over here selling imported cars from Japan and Singapore and see them with all kinds of weird and wonderful addons, especially Radio/CD/DVD/TV/Satellite units installed, however they do not work over here but they can be converted, to the local TV and radio systems, and some of the colours are bright especially the bright yellow ones.
