Power Heater

Avensis '54 2.0 Diesel

Can you please help me with what this function exactly does and how do you activate the functionality. I believe that it is designed to warm up the interior at a rapid rate even if the car is not warmed up. It is used in conjunction with the A\C.

The button I am talking of is the button near the door mirror controls thats got wavy lines indicating heat.

Reading the handbook, it can either be a "combustion" or "hot gas" type.

I have tried to use it once, following the instructions but I did not notice any difference.

I would hazard a guess that they aren't fitted in this country.

I would hazard a guess that they aren't fitted in this country.

I'm afraid they are. I was told about it by the dealer who essentially said that they are for colder climates - do not touch - burns fuel at an alarming rate - useful only when being warm is more important that mpg.

Then one day, my wife was driving and we stopped as I went to get some bits from a shop. She sat with the engine running as the car was steamed up. Imagine my surprise when I opened the door to what felt like a forge!

"It's a bit warm" said I.

"Oh?" said my wife, "I only put the rear window heater on."

Realisation hit me. I looked at the *unlit* rear element switch. Then said...

"You put the !Removed! combustion heater on!"

And it really does hit your MPG. Nice and warm though!

Cheers,

Jim

I dont think they fit them to new cars now. Took a T3-x diesel for a test drive in Jan, which had it fitted, when mine arrived in May, it had electric demister for mirrors instead, much preferable IMO

They are called Fuel Burning auxilliary heaters. <_<

They are predominantly cold climate spec, however, they are often used to supplement initial engine warm-up.

They effectively heat the coolant from cold so you have heat to cabin quicker. They are only normally required on Diesel cars due to slow engine warm-up.

Most modern cars now use PTC heaters opposed to Fuel burning heaters. PTC's are effectively electric elements in your heatar unit, so use power opposed to fuel.

Only use it in really cold conditions. Most cars are linked to ambient thermostat's so function is automatic at +3 Degrees. If yours is manually operated...........it's your call when you choose to use it!

Can you please tell me how I can get it to work. I have followed the instructions in the manual but no joy.

  • 5 years later...

Hello, I'm from Bulgaria and I have an Avensis T25. I have the same problem. First I don't know what tipe of heater I have. In the manual there are two types and two different types of usege. Do you know how can I find what type of heater I have and does it work. I need it because it is common to have temperatures below -10°C (14°F) in the winter.

Thanks
