:ph34r:Hi, I have a 92 tercel. Im planning on swaping an engine however i dont get paid alot. is it possible for me to change my tercel head into a celica or a mr2? Also can an 1986 Mr2 engine fit into a tercel, even though its engine is in the back. to make this more short which is a better fit and more HP, Celica or Mr2??

Depending on what year Celica/MR2 your talking about they both ran the 3S-GE or 3S-GTE engines (mk2 MR2) so you would be looking at the same engine.

The earlier Mk2 eninge was a 4a-ge (1.6 NA) or 4a-gze (1.6 Supercharged), the 4a-ge was also used in Corolla's so not necessarily always fitted at the back of the car. As to which would fit best I'm not sure but hope someone will be along shortly....

Being an 1986 mr2 it will be the 4age. It will fit, but you will have problems with the gearbox, and several ancillaries (ie throttle cable mechanism etc) Its best to try and find a fwd version really, as you will then have everything you need (and cheaper - mr2 will cost more then a corolla)

;) So, would it be best for me to get a corolla engine? If i do what year and what is the engine name? :D

not sure which year but it would still be a 4a-ge

get as close to August 1991 as possible.....

the later the engineis the better it will be.

the 4efte is a bolt in so you wouldn't have to make mounts fit, it is turbo and puts out 135hp, the 4age is only like 150, is 15hp worth the extra effort?

Nothing is ever imposible,it's all about cash and ease of conversion and how much work you are prepared to do yourself, off laid by cost off course!

I'm going for a low cost engine with a different gearbox to try and drag the cost down but as always i suspect a few surprises at a guess 5 to7k by the time its fitted.
