Rav4 Alloys

I'm a new user here and just wonderin:-

My 2 year old rav4 is now on it's 3rd set of alloys.

8 wheels have pitted. They are washed twice a week at least and have never been kerbed.

Toyota say there is no manufacturing defect but know there is a problem.

My warranty is out within the year and I've been told that if they corrode after this, then 'hard lines'. I have been advised to run the car with corroded alloys until just before the warrany is up, then have them changed because at least i will gat about a year out of them.

Does anybody else have this problem on here. My dealership has told me that it is quite widespread but that they get no joy from the head office.

Once your three year warrany is out, you are stuffed.

I just got rid of an escort conv with 7 year old alloys. Not a mark. My wife has a clio with 8 year old after market fox alloys . pristine. As you may be able to tell, I'm not happy

My son works for BMW and they have similar problems, blaming the use of corrosive wheel cleaners as a possible cause. Apparently the use of water soluble paints has also been mentioned, but no one has yet given a decent answer.

I clean my alloys without the use of wheel cleaners and regularly wax them to keep the brake dust at bay. No problems yet, but I'm watching and will be back like a shot before the warranty runs out.

Water and a soft cloth

No detergent

Same as on EVERY car I've ever owned. Never a problem before

thinking about it, they probably dont address it as its not a life or death matter, if toyota can get away with not fixing the problem, they will, the same as any other manufacturer

How much do a set of four toyota alloys cost?

Simply not good enough to say that there is nothing wrong with them when they last less than a year

Am in dispute with them at the mo. Will inform this forum if I get a reply.

So does the road in the winter!

I use washing up liquid and my wheels are as good as new.

My brother, who used to be an MoT-er told me a couple of years back that corrosion and kerbing - particularly on alloys - was under consideration for the MoT on the basis of safety.

I've not had a car MoT'd for a few years so I don't know whether it is included these days.

Bit off topic, but as said above ,washing up liquid has salt in it..best not used, better to buy a car shampoo, i buy mine from woolworth :) .
